Re: War in Heaven P1 Voice Acting Call, Take 2
That's actually true for a lot of the people that do voice acting. :P
To consider the Earth as the only populated world in infinite space is as absurd as to assert that in an entire field of millet, only one grain will grow. - Metrodorus of Chios
I wept. Mysterious forces beyond my ken had reached into my beautiful mission and energized its pilots with inhuman bomb-firing abilities. I could only imagine the GTVA warriors giving a mighty KIAAIIIIIII shout as they worked their triggers, their biceps bulging with sinew after years of Ivan Drago-esque steroid therapy and weight training. - General Battuta

Re: War in Heaven P1 Voice Acting Call, Take 2
I think human beings in general tend to dislike seeing or listening to themselves, unless it's in real time, i.e. looking at yourself in a mirror or a live video feed. At least it's something I noticed in my social circles.

Meh I'll give it another go after work.

I recorded a vast amount of dialogue for AoA, which I put into the submission pool along with everybody else, listened to, and rejected. So please don't feel bad if you do a vast amount of work and then it gets nowhere - we know how it feels!

"Better to try and fail than to never try at all." That might not be a universal truth, depending on the cost of failing, but in the case of submitting voice files it certainly applys I think.
The worst thing you can lose is a bit of time and bandwidth. And even if you don't get selected you still might learn something.
That was certainly the case for me, since I learned a few things both from the experience and from the feedback I got from the people who managed the VAing effort (in particular Rian, General Battuta and IssMneur).
Also considering there are much more roles in WiH than there were in AoA, I'd guess the chances of getting cast in WiH might be better than they were for AoA.

Well if you're really struggling for voice actors, I'll take another shot at recording more lines. Probably won't have time until at least tomorrow night, though.

I still think my voice is far too expressionless to do most of the parts justice, but maybe you guys will think differently.

Underplaying is much preferable to overacting.

Right...
Sent all my recordings I have made at the moment. (Okay, it is just one role, but...)

One question:
What does 'Cast' exactly mean?

To Americans your voice is awesome. It's too bad your voice is so distinct otherwise I'd eve asking you to do a role in WiH :P

Just noticed after playing BP again, I would speak some lines different, now that I really know the context  :)

But not those I have already sent. With these I am quite satisfied.

I've tried recording myself a couple times in the past, but gave up after listening to the recordings. I'm not sure if this is due to the microphone I'm using or what, but I simply can't stand the sound of my own voice.
Same. I think I sound too young.

Well, I think that of mine, too. But you can always act your voice out differently.
Like I used a deeper tone to voice an experienced captain for example.

Hi Chaps,

Wondering what the procedure is for submitting files to you?  I am actually a professionally trained actor and had a great deal of fun doing a small part in the Diaspora project recently and would quite frankly love to get my little microphone out again(ooh er), and help to make it all that much more of an immersive experience.

Loved the two Blueplanet offerings but needed the added realism our craft gives to the experience so was waiting for this to get started :)
Let me know what the skinny is...

Thanks muchly

I'd be happy to fill some open spots if you need it, just finished BP:AoA myself  and I loved it.

Re: War in Heaven P1 Voice Acting Call, Take 2
I'm curious as to how the fiction viewer will fit into the voice acting. For example, the one I'm thinking of in particular is the Mars vacation one where Levi (?) recounts how he tested the shock clamps on the Indus (and Simms' reaction). Will the Laporte voice be reading it all out herself including Levi's lines, or will you splice in lines from whoever does Levi whenever he actually speaks in the viewer, or will the fiction viewer just not be voiced at all? I've never really heard more than one voice actor talking at a time in briefings/debriefings/shipwide addresses (in retail or mods) and I'm curious as to wether this is just a stylistic choice or whether or not the way FSO works forces this limitation somehow.

Re: War in Heaven P1 Voice Acting Call, Take 2
Briefings/debriefings simply play a wav or ogg; there's no reason you couldn't have more than one person talking.

The fiction viewer actually doesn't support voice acting at all. Hopefully this can change.
