Hecate ship table mistake?
Is the entry for turret 3 supposed to be a Huge Terran Turret? It's opposite is a regular Terran Turret and it seems like an odd place to put the ship's lone HTT.
Did you hear that fellas? She says I have a Meritorious Unit.

Re: Hecate ship table mistake?
Yup, it's a weird thing, but that's how the Hecate is tabled in retail, although I don't think it's the only ship with asymmetrical turret configuration ; the Mentu for instance has a subach on one of its two bottom-forward turrets. The Moloch has some weird stuff too iirc.

Re: Hecate ship table mistake?
Hmm, weird. Thanks for the info.

Not that it really makes that much of a difference. Blobs kinda suck anyway.

How about the default weapons layout for the Faustus?  One of those aft defensive turrets is a single firepoint turret, with two primary and two secondary weapon slots.  Talk about weird.

terran turrets are at least somewhat useful for point defense.  huge turrets are worthless.

Re: Hecate ship table mistake?
Huge turrets were semi-useful in FS 1- they had much more range than the regular ones (2100 meters vs 1375) and high damage per shot so they were dangerous to unshielded bombers flying in a straight line in order to get their bombs locked on, or perhaps freighters...

Once shielded ships arrived, these guns became obsolete.

the only thing i've EVER seen get hit and dealt any meaningful amount of damage by a huge turret is an asteroid.

I recall them being useful in FS1 capship duels

Re: Hecate ship table mistake?
EDIT: Whoops, wrongly posted. Thanks for telling.

On this subject, blob turrets are more fun and useful when upgunned, I did that with some custom blob turrets, increasing firing speed and velocity as well as giving them a explosive effect on impact.

An (slightly extreme) example can be found in a video example here.

Fixing retail assets like that in the table can be a bit troublesome when converting over for a mod though from own experience sharing between computers.

Re: Hecate ship table mistake?
Incredible stuff, I always felt some of the older games had a very deep and complex message and meaning behind them. Besides it's Firaxis, who made Alpha Centauri which is boatloads of this potential hellish theme. It would be great to see this whole war ended somehow, preferrably by some unique and thought provoking manner rather than more nukes. ;)

Wrong thread, I think

i believe you recall wrong.  unless they scale epically with difficulty level.  i remember in destiny of peace where 3 orions open up on one, bombers STILL have to do all the heavy lifting.  3 destroyers devoting their full attention to a cap ship did maybe a couple percent hull damage.

Well I was recalling the mission in FS1 where the Orion battles the Demon, and both were inflicting damage to each other

Wooooow. Looks great. Increased rate of fire, even at the price of reduced damage, is the way to go - suddenly, attacking capships becomes really intimidating.

That's alright, that's what test missions are for, testing out various changes to existing weaponry like the blob turret or testing out new ones. Impressive that the game can show that many effects at once though.

I suppose if you could replace the old blob turrets per vessel with one of these faster firing ones (the Amaterasu custom model has three types of these fast firing turrets included, though the ones I show are even faster firing), the blob turrets could be a lot more effective and useful than they currently are.

Isn't that the point of BP-style pulse turrets?
