Guy plays the same Civilization II game for 10 years
Found on reddit, via slashdot. :p

The thread is pretty cool, and has led to some very interesting strategic and philosophical discussions.  As well as several thought-provoking comparisons to 1984.

Ran across this earlier today- it's friggin' intense! With total tech stagnation and equality, I have no idea how anybody could break that kind of stalemate.

I saw people tossing out various tactics and strategies.... it's been ten whole years IRL, and nearly two millenia of warfare in-game. I'm sure this guy's tried just about everything by now.

Doesn't Civ auto-end / stop running effectively after a certain pre-defined date?

Oddly enough if you consider the lyrics of the song I used for the battle and the tech used by the enemies, my mod has already done just that.

nuke their nukes before they can nuke your nukes.

I believe it usually gives you the option to keep playing, at least in Civ2.

So the Earth went to hell after you launched the ship to Alpha Centauri, eh?

Well, I'm sure the colonists are doing fine over there. Yep. No horrible long ideological wars or nightmarish native life.

Re: Guy plays the same Civilization II game for 10 years
Incredible stuff, I always felt some of the older games had a very deep and complex message and meaning behind them. Besides it's Firaxis, who made Alpha Centauri which is boatloads of this potential hellish theme. It would be great to see this whole war ended somehow, preferably by some unique and thought provoking manner rather than more nukes. ;)
I'm all about getting the most out of games, so whenever I discover something very strange or push the limits, I upload them here:

I like how basically apart from the names this is the world situation espoused in 1984.

To be fair, in 1984 we are never given actual evidence the rival superpowers and the conflicts with them actually are anything more then propaganda.

Actually I think it's actually a pretty cool scenario for a strategy game, especially if you could factor in things like backsliding tech and dwindling strategic resources.
