Endless Space. SINS RIPOFF?
It was released the 4 July, any hardcore space-combat gamer who already played it a little or anyone who had access to the beta?

It looks awkwardly similar to Sins of a Solar Empire. Maybe they tried to make a similar game but improve it the way they think it should be?

Some pointers I would like to know...

* Features
* Features that SINS don't have. Better? Worse?
* Pros/Cons
* Pros/Cons (Compared to Sins of a Solar Empire "SINS")
* How big can the fleet get? Bigger or smaller than SINS?
* More or less ships/classes?
* Modding available for future Freespace Mod?
* Graphics, Sound, Gameplay experience? And compared to SINS what do you think?
* How similar is it really?
* Which one do you think is more fun?
And any other information you would like to add...

I have no idea what kind of game this is and the wiki is way to big for me to read. So I just want some kind of summary.
It might not be similar to SINS at all then I'm sorry  :p

Well, in fairness Sins was merely a growth from things like Masters of Orion and Galactic Civilizations. It really depends on how well executed the concept is :)

Nothing wrong with a making a game like another one and only changing a handful of things that you think need changing, as long as you're not claiming a total complete revolution in gaming or something. I'd do it if there were things I felt strongly enough about. Also why is your font so big, Meatball?

sins is a RTS endless is turnbased thats a pretty big difference (think civilization vs. star craft)

In those videos, the battles look boring as ****. Whee fly in straight line and shoot broadsides. They look like they're trying to do 16th century Man o' Wars...in space. It looks ridiculous, and you have no control over it. So you're sitting there watching ships act dumb, why.

At least in Sins you can try to micro your units (they're not all that responsive, but it IS possible to have a higher efficiency by micromanaging your units for better positioning, etc)

Saying Endless Space is a Sins ripoff is a bit like saying Civilization V is a Warcraft 3 ripoff. The only similarity to Sins that I can see is that it's a strategy game in space. Sins is a RTS with some 4X elements, this is a turn-based strategy; ES shares way more similarities with Galactic Civilizations 2 than with Sins. Game mechanics, visuals, everything that makes a strategy game what it is, that's all different. Therefore, saying it's a Sins ripoff is quite unfair. In Sins, it's all about amassing huge fleets and seeing them blow up other player's fleets. Endless Space isn't really about huge space battles at all. There are battles, which aren't really the best part of the game, but it's more about managing your empire, expanding it, researching, keeping it from being overwhelmed by other players / pirates and eventually achieving victory through one or more of the goals (cultural victory / supremacy victory / domination victory, or whatever). Think more along the lines of Civilization in space, with a bit less complexity.

Overall, however, Endless Space has some issues preventing me from calling it a great game; it's good fun but nothing spectacular. Space battles use a rock-paper-scissors mechanic that is boring and doesn't make much sense either; this is easily the worst part of the game. The 4x elements don't bring anything new, the graphics are smooth but nothing special, and the races and stories behind them I found somewhat generic.

Imperium Galactica II was the best 4X game I played. Good space and ground combat system, nice story and interesting races. Not very diverse regarding equipment, but that's an old game. Also, a very good, very extended city building system, something I didn't see in any other such game. Colony administrators were quite smart and AI was reasonably challenging.

There wasn't a single game that would even come close to it with regards to complexity. All of them were either turn-based (something I can't stand, because I think it's clunky and doesn't represent time well), had no control over what's happening planetside aside from a control panel with some abstract stats and didn't had as good combat system. IG2 had shortcomings (only one city per planet, "stacking" units if you've got a lot of them, lack of tech tree diversity), but other games had even more of them.

Adding on more cities per planet would have been a micromanagement nightmare and wouldnt really have added anything extra to the game.
Aside from that, I agree completely with you.
Give the game a good graphical upgrade, work out the weakpoints and you've got yourself a 4x game close to perfection that isn't turned based.

Well, there were occasions I ran out of space in the planetary capital. That would've been time to establish a second city (I don't think any more would be needed). In fact, one city per colony is quite realistic considering how long the game usually lasts. Also, some more variety between races would've been nice, but not completely necessary. Other than that, it's pretty much a perfect 4X game. Strangely, it doesn't seem to be well known at all.

Typo (and fixed it) ;) Doesn't change the meaning of the post though... except that if someone called it a sots ripoff it actually wouldn't be quite as bad as calling it a sins ripoff... as due to its real time constraints Sins arguably waters down the complexity of the 4x experience quite a bit.
