Re: What animes/series are you watching right now?
Yui is from Total Eclipse so this confused me for a second

Well that explains why I didn't recognize that scene in particular. I blame giphy.

Is Total Eclipse in the same universe?

Yes it is. If you want to get in from the top, Muv-Luv and Muv-Luv Alternative are both on Steam nowadays, though I daresay some of the charm that endeared people back in 2010 or so might not be there any more (no more knockoff Livin La Vida Loca, no bad voice overs).

Re: What animes/series are you watching right now?
Alright, I've just powered through the Made in Abyss anime over the past week, it's excellent, undoubtedly one of the best anime series I've ever seen (which is starting to be quite a bit). From art direction, characters, plot or world building, that series is on top of its game, probably ending up in my top 5 favorite anime series (we'll see once the "good-series" high wears off). I just hope they'll put out another season in the not too distant future, 'cause I want more ! Seriously though, I don't know how fast the source material gets published, or if there are even plans for a second season, but if I have to wait like 5 years like Attack on Titan, I'm gonna be annoyed.

Very strongly recommended.

Re: What animes/series are you watching right now?
The source material has completed one more story arc which provides probably 6 episodes worth of material (which by the way would be some of the most ****ing jaw dropping and gut wrenching material you could possibly imagine (like **** has not even begun to get real yet)), but not enough for a season 2, maybe an OVA though. The artist has a brisk pace of one new chapter every 1 to 6 months (it's technically monthly, but the schedule is "when it's done", putting it in the same league as Berserk), it's looking like we are close to a new release (interestingly when ever he works he live streams on pixiv apparently), maybe by the end of the week, but at the current rate of production it'll probably be another year or two to finish off the current arc and for enough material for 12 more episodes. but it takes a year or so for productions like this to get off the ground anyway, so I wouldn't get too upset about it. My gut says two years, or one year if they do a two hour OVA (which I could totally see) On the pluss side the Manga is getting an official release in North America right about now, so you can start buying that if you would like.

In other news, just watched the Netflix funded Devilman. holy ****! what a beautiful disaster! It's just a hyperviolent and hypersexualized super splatery orgy of a tribute to (the) older anime. Pretty good adaption if you can appreciate/don't mind uttering phrases to yourself like "oh now we're in a club... oh, tits... oh, drugs... oh, that's a lot of blood" or "did... he just... literally rape that demon to death?" has nice art direction and the soundtrack is ****ing retro wave as ****. Kinda brought back some of those old Evangelion feels. If you're in the mood for a "What the **** did I just watch?" ****ed up anime that is borderline porn but making callbacks to shonen tropes I give it a recommendation. Note this is the definition of NOT a normie friendly anime.

Thanks for the info !

On the plus side the Manga is getting an official release in North America right about now, so you can start buying that if you would like.
Import costs would be a bit much, I'll be on the lookout for a European release.

Re: What animes/series are you watching right now?
I've been playing nothing but Steins;Gate for the past couple weeks and am part way through Chapter 7. I like the VN more than the show for a few reasons related to how damn long the thing is (31 hours and I still have 2.X chapters to go), especially the character stuff and how much better Okabe is as a character when you're stuck in his head. I still think it's one of the better time travelish stories out there. That said the anime is excellent if you don't like VNs or don't want to spend 50+ hours with it.

So far the show I'd most recommend that's started this season (and I have yet to watch Violet Evergarden) is Yuru Camp. It's a really nice slice of life/healing show if you need something charming and cozy in your life.

Sora Yori's been good so far as well (plus MadHouse original!).

Ramen Daisuke Kazumi-san has a decent gimmick for what's a standard yuri-bait slice of life show.

I'm hopeful about Trigger's collab Darling in the Franxx (will post about it after it airs)

Oh yeah and some Junji Ito short stories got adapted and it's first episode was great.

Re: What animes/series are you watching right now?
If anyone was waiting for MiA manga updates, chapter 44 is out and widely available in the usual places, not a lot happens but a lot of things are being set up and some weird **** from earlier gets explained, some progress on the Reg "who/what the **** am I" plot line seems eminent and we meet one of the leaders of the current location, he's a total bro. A lot of things I cannot wait to see animated. It's a very cozy/cute chapter, with a little bit of action mixed in to (imo) humorous effect. Also, gratuitous food porn. Oh, and probabilistic languages.

FYI, chapter 26 is roughly where the anime lets off.

Loved Devilman Crybaby, 8/10. Ends less brilliantly than the first and second sections, but still very very interesting.

Also really enjoyed the first season of psycho pass. Really recommend it, at least 7/10.

Re: What animes/series are you watching right now?
Currently watching: "Konosuba! God's Blessing on This Wonderful World."

It's beautifully animated, cute, funny, has interesting characters, some good action. Good music, best OP, etc etc.
Warning: mild to moderate and occasionally severe Gainaxing.

The gainaxing is a feint. The best girl is the one who isn't flaunting her assets. Unless inordinate destruction is considered a sexual quality.

I’ve been binge watching Steven Universe and it’s wonderful.
First cartoon with such a young target I see in which stuff that would be subtext in more “adult” shows is basically the text.
There is also some interesting lore there, it reminds me of Gargoyles somewhat.
I just wish the airing schedule wasn’t so erratic, it might be months before the new episodes air even though the fifth season is still running.

I disagree. The writing is especially poor, especially in a certain episode, with major themes about consent, which portrays its message rather backwards to how the writers intended it. But to each their own.

Also blame Cartoon Network for the scheduling, iirc they only release two new episodes per month now.

Which one exactly?
The one with the desert island?

Looks like ****e.

Redicolous super-mecha that somehow have the power-output and firepower of an entire army, while being basically invulnerable. Makes you wonder how there can even be any war if one side posseses tech that is THAT far ahead?

Watched first few episodes of No Game No Life. Jesus Christ my eyes hurt from so much teen fan service cobbling them over what would probably be an interesting idea. So far, 5/10. I guess the idea keeps me going with it, but it's almost a masochistic exercise. I feel old.

That's because most anime IS targeted at younger audiences. Lots of shonens*** and moes***.
You have to sift trough a lot of garbage to find the good stuff...though I guess same could be said for any entertinment media.
