Re: What animes/series are you watching right now?
Yuru Camp and A Place Further than the Universe are both excellent so far for slice of life(ish) shows.

I've been enjoying Violet Evergarden quite a lot and fingers crossed that KyoAni can actually do well with the characters since that's what the show is.

Magus Bride and Garo Vanishing Line are still going strong for their second cours. Garo has some really good character designs even for one-offs.

Darling in the Franxx is looking like the biggest disappointment of the season since it's a mashup of Evangelion, Gurren Lagann, and Kill la Kill but without any of the character energy of any of the shows outside of the two main girls.

If you have not watched Ping Pong, do so.  I don't care if you don't like sports shows or don't give a **** about ping-pong or whatever.  This is Masaaki Yuasa's world, and we're all just living in it.

With regard to the discussion of DESTROY GUNDAM, that's all from Gundam SEED Destiny, which is widely regarded as one of the most **** Gundam shows.  Of course the Destroy Gundam is a cheap knock-off of the Psyco Gundam (from Zeta Gundam, of which SEED Destiny is a cheap knock-off), which was notoriously difficult to control and wasn't ever mass produced because of that.

As for why they had other mechs than the destroy gundam, it's just that destroy gundam was developed more recently, so they still had an organized force of gundam-sized huge mechs.  The villains in this part are a combination of super-racists and the military industrial complex.  they are more concerned with being evil than any kind of real efficiency.

I am also in agreement with Legend of the Galactic Heroes being the pinnacle of anime.  I eagerly await the day something approaches its greatness.

@Luis i can safely say that Legend of the Galactic Heroes has essentially no teen fanservice, unless you like cute space fleet commanding young men.

There was a pretty cool Monster Box Set down at the local Harvey Norman. I thought about picking it up, had really nice artwork and a fancy smancey box.

Stein's Gate is the most boring **** I've ever suffered in my life, waiting for the "genius" anime that is just about to occur, and yet it flies past my head. It must.

I ****ing love Steins;Gate but it's definitely not for everyone. It's 50% slice of life and if you don't like the characters then what it does in its second half isn't worth it. I like all the characters and it does the time travel stuff actually decently.

The VN does some really interesting stuff with the idea of replaying a game and its true ending but it's a 30-50 hour game.

If you're interested in the time travel and like the characters, stick with it. Otherwise it's probably not worth the time. (Shame cause I adore it).

Kinda very flipped out over the milkshake ducking of the net-juu no susume director.

I'm just hoping that I don't see any other similar news for other IP I follow.

IN other words, there's an anime about the JASDF breeding very moe dragons or something coming soon.

Re: What animes/series are you watching right now?
So since it's one of the nostalgic thing about my childhood (I even had a model of the Arcadia IIRC) I decided to watch Space Pirate Captain Harlock.
Is it me or these old anime tend to feel a bit choppy? I had a similar feeling rewatching some random green jacket Lupin III episodes, the scenes don't always seem to flow from one to another as they should.
Take note that I'm watching the uncut versions (some of the scenes are in japanese with subtitles because of it because the RAI always shaved a minute or so per episode before dubbing for some reason) not some edited versions.
The weird thing is that I had completely forgotten the Italian intro which is weird because it was even a radio hit at the time, but then again I also noticed I didn't remember a lot about the series itself but probably the Italia 7's choice of jumbling the episodes with the ones of a later reboot (I distinctly remember the Arcadia changing back and forth between its original look and the reboot look with the skull and bones on the front) might have contributed.
Also I was no more than seven years old when they stopped transmitting it so perhaps my memories being rather sketchy is to be expected.
Until now the show is charmingly operatic with the more obnoxious anime tropes and humour being much more subdued than more contemporary stuff or absent.

I speak of the 74 episode adaption of The Fugitive with the role of officer Gerard played by a guy with a typewriter for a hand and the one armed man played by a roof walking Antichrist who was raised as a Stasi child solder ..er i mean just born evil and burned down his upper class mansion home ...wait no he was he result of a eugenics experiment er, you know what, never mind.

Oh, god, only now I realized a certain character in the most recent episodes of Steven Universe is basically a Captain Harlock parody, my unconscious seems to have been playing tricks on me.  :nervous:
