Re: More Bull**** Apple Products?
An Apple Tv doesn't sound like a bad idea to me. Not one His Jobsness would have endorsed, I guess, but definitely something that would work.

I mean, late-model iMacs already look very TV-ish...

Appstore. More closed system shennigans and customer lockin/dependancy. Oh and: $$$$$! :)

You most likely won't be able to have a normal antenna plugged into it, you'd have to buy channels from the dedicated Apple store. Same thing with DVD/Blue Ray support. :)

Well, once Ubuntu TV is released, I expect manufacturers to make a cheaper TV.

I assume its going to integrate with the rest of the iCrap.  Probably in a simple handholding fashion that might insult the tech savvy, but works well for the tech illiterate.  Having a integrated system of media products makes sense and is a sound move for Mac to pursue.  As they saturate the phone, computer, tablet markets they need to find new avenues to expand.  If they keep their steam up and don't make any dumb bets they could stand a good chance of becoming a pan media conglomerate.

Apple TV has been around since 2007, it's not really a new product...

Actually, if I could buy channels a la carte like that, I wouldn't mind having a look. I don't bother with cable because there's hundreds of channels I couldn't give a single, solitary frak about, but I'd like to be able to watch at least a few.

Somehow I doubt this will work that way, though. Kickbacks from cable companies would probably "persuade" networks not to license such a scheme.

Re: More Bull**** Apple Products?
i'm willing to bet "a few" individually priced channels would cost you pretty much the same or more as a cable subscription.

Re: More Bull**** Apple Products?
Don't understand the thread. If you don't like Apple products, don't buy them.

If they are going to release an "iTV", something they have "failed" to do for the past 5 years or so since the rumours started, nobody is going to force you to buy them, so the tone of this thread smells me rather worse than the "pretensious households" who will gladly buy them. Or do you feel the need for other people ask you what products would you like not being produced beforehand?

And puh lease. The TV market is really tiny, compared with the smartphone and the current tablet one (for example). So the blogosphere constantly freaking out about a possible apple iTV is just being lame and math-free.

Televisions are the most ubiquitous device on households and most people would rather consume content on large screens than on small screens, which is the entire point of the endeavor. To sell people content, and not just to have profit from selling the device.

Since you're portuguese, check all the work that is currently being done by PT on MEO as an example.

Re: More Bull**** Apple Products?
Portuguese cable companies are top notch, receiving international prizes on and on. Not only "Meo", but the current "Zon Iris" (its competition) is damned good. Unlike in the US, there's real innovation around here every single year (every time I hear the verge complaining about TV I think "well at least we got that one covered...").

That's not to say that the TV market is worth the trouble, which is immense (it envolves huge political shenanigans, legal shenanigans, dealing with cable companies who *don't* want innovation, fighting the content struggle on and on, etc.). Apple is much better off just building iPads and getting billions every month.
