And that image is supposed to represent what may have happened in the past, not what may happen in the future.

It wouldn't be a fun thing for earth to loose the moon.

The Moon moves away at something stupid like 2cm per year. The thing is though, when it does eventually spin off, it could curve around/smash into some other planet (Mars for instance) and knock it off it's orbit just enough so that it'd smash into the Earth. When Planets Collide!!

Apparently, after receeding a fair distance, the moon will eventually start moving closer to the Earth. Then it will either receede again, or enter the Roche' limit and become fragmented. I wonder how many times this game of cat and mouse has been played :)

Then there's that 2nd moon which we're supposed to have a 1 in 9 chance of having, and which some astronomers claim to have detected and tracked.

Just look at Neptunes' moon, triton.  Retrograde orbit there.

But as for a second moon?  it had better be a 30 meter wide pebble or something because it really is pathetic if we haven't seen it yet if its any bigger!

And now with the whole spaceshuttle fleet being indefinately grounded it looks like the Darwin mission will be put on hold :(

WAAA!!!

Why dont those idiots stop beating up terrorists that don't exist and fund a space programme instead!

Yeah I've heard of the 2nd Moon theory as well. But I don't really think thats likely. People have spun around the moon plenty of times and not spoted anything, but that can be probably explained that its in the darkness or that is REALLY small. Then ofcourse theres the 10th planet, Rupert. ;) And the whole NEMESIS theory in which our sun is infact a binary star, with its partner way off in the distance, coming this way to torch the Earth again. Though my favority theory is the one that the Earth is infact hollow, whith a star in the middle. Or that we are infact INSIDE the Earth right now, and the Sun is the central star, and all the other stars are just crystal pieces floating around, the galaxies mere clouds. And to think people believe in that crap!

You all know the asteroid defense system that was featured in Starship Troopers? Well, it is a good defense except that if the asteroid came from the direction where the Moon was not in range, it would be completely useless.

Aint that the one where humanity build like a huge rocket on a railway line, and gathers two of everything, except in the case of humans, all lovely blond blue eyed white people. Like 80 of them. Yeah, I remember it. Funny.
