I'm actually a little surprised that after all the end-of-the-world hype being built up by media, that no one appeared to use this event for political gain. It'd be like the most ideal day to bomb someone and blame meteor showers or something else. Guess the hype didn't work as intended and/or all the people stocking up guns (breaking records apparently), food and bunkers are doing so for an entirely different reason..

Noone is that stupid. Disguising meteor strikes as bombings simply does not work (unless you drop meteorites from space, that is, and noone has that capability at the moment).

Many of them went to some mountain in France where a portal would open and bring them all to the new world inside.
(How they figured the world in the mountain would be save from the destruction of this one still eludes me.)
