Any ETA on posible solution? I started to read spoilers of act.3 and I'm starting to regret as I'll know act.3 story before I will even play it.

The problem we're trying to fix here is that the video hardware you guys have is incapable of running the deferred lighting code.

The solution we'll need to attempt is to make builds without the deferred lighting code that are still capable of running the Act 3 missions.

Whether this is possible is up to The_E. The_E?

Once the deferred lighting code becomes the standard, will the current (non antipodes) system be used as the fallback? Or will our hardware drop us all the way back to the fixed render pipeline or something like that?

I am looking into the issue. It seems to me that something inadvertently broke the fixed render pipe; that can and will be fixed.

However, the shader-based render path will remain deferred only, given that maintaining 3 separate render paths is silly.

Well, you'll be losing a LOT of effects, like the enhanced lighting and normal mapping.

Yes.  Those effects have been around longer than shaders have, so they'll still be present.

You won't get any postprocessing though, which is a shame as post effects are used heavily in Act 3.

I had to switch GLSL off for my game to work. But only with this new antipode xxx.17. Can't be old hardware, it's high-end and recent.
Currently playing: real life.

Ah, bummer to be losing normal maps and post processing, but it's understandable--the greater good and all :)

Will the deferred lighting go into trunk at 3.7 or will there be a stable release with the new pilot code before it goes in?

There will be a stable release with the new pilot code, yes. Deferred rendering will then go to Antipodes.

BP builds are based off of the Antipodes branch in the FSO svn, revision 9485. To get this, use your preferred svn client to check out "svn://svn.icculus.org/fs2open/branches/antipodes". Are you sure that this has something to do with post processing? If I'm not mistaken, Diaspora uses post processing for the film grain effect and it works on my Laptop without any problem.
