Re: Cannot run Blue Planet mod, help please?
That error is coming from the MediaVPs, not Blue Planet. Maybe they're corrupt?

Also maybe delete these -

Re: Cannot run Blue Planet mod, help please?
Can you also post the output from this command?

Code: [Select]
svn patch BP.patch

Re: Cannot run Blue Planet mod, help please?
Removed the packages, still crashing.
Now I compiled again with:
Code: [Select]
patch -p0 < BP.patch
./autogen.sh
make
It still crashes, here the log

Re: Cannot run Blue Planet mod, help please?
Your MediaVPs still look (maybe?) corrupt, also could you post the output Niffiwan suggested?

Re: Cannot run Blue Planet mod, help please?
Code: [Select]
svn patch BP.patchGives "unknown command 'patch'". I reinstalled mediavps_3612 after checking the md5sums. Still no luck...

Grump grump grump grump. I think Niffiwan might have to take point on helping you.

Re: Cannot run Blue Planet mod, help please?
Here

http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=83225.msg1665734#msg1665734

with #171 is mentioned, that subversion 1.6.x of Ubuntu 12.04 is not working with the "patch" command, but with the latest version 1.7.x. Tried the following:

Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get install build-essential
sudo apt-get build-dep subversion
Download the source from here:
http://subversion.apache.org/download/
unpack the file to /home, change dir
Code: [Select]
cd subversion-1.7.8 # in my case
./configure --with-ssl --enable-javahl --with-jdk=/usr/lib/jvm/java-6-openjdk
make
make javahl
sudo make install install-javahl
Then I removed the old "antipodes" folder, checkout(ed) again, patched with
Code: [Select]
svn patch BP.patchwithout errors and compiled again.
Same result. Log attached. Maybe subversion was compiled with oracle-java?!
Will try that later.

Re: Cannot run Blue Planet mod, help please?
Code: [Select]
./configure --with-ssl --enable-javahl --with-jdk=/usr/lib/jvm/java-7-oracledid also not work...

Re: Cannot run Blue Planet mod, help please?
niffiwan, please change the patch command to "patch -p0 < BP.patch". That will work on any *nix system, without all this faffing around with svn versions.
The good Christian should beware of mathematicians, and all those who make empty prophecies. The danger already exists that the mathematicians have made a covenant with the devil to darken the spirit and to confine man in the bonds of Hell.

Re: Cannot run Blue Planet mod, help please?
yeah, patch is simpler as long as you know to ignore the errors with the MSVC project file changes :)
(btw - the original instructions are from FSF, so he'd need to update his post...  :nervous:)

@praseodym - this is quite odd.  The error is being reported in the media_vps, but you've redownloaded them, checked the md5sums, and the media_vps haven't changed recently.

Could you please try a few things for me?
1) put the attached file in /home/oliver/Freespace2/mediavps_3612/data/tables, then re-run FSO

(this is the table that FSO is complaining about, and I've attached a "good copy" I've just extracted from a mediavps download)

2) Can you try with a prebuilt binary?

Go to this URL: https://build.opensuse.org/package/show?package=fs2open-blueplanet&project=home%3Aniffiwan
Click on Download
Select your OS version & follow the provided instructions
Link the installed binary to your FSO directory
Code: [Select]
cd /home/oliver/Freespace2
ln -s /usr/bin/fs2_open_3.6.17_DEBUG
ln -s /usr/bin/fs2_open_3.6.17

(or, if you don't want to link the files, just ensure that /home/oliver/Freespace2 is your current working directory when you run /usr/bin/fs2_open_3.6.17_DEBUG or /usr/bin/fs2_open_3.6.17)

3) Can you please post the contents of your ~/.fs2_open/fs2_open.ini file?

e.g. here's a copy of one of mine:
Code: [Select]
$ cat ~/.fs2_open/fs2_open.ini
[Default]
VideocardFs2open=OGL -(1152x864)x32 bit
TextureFilter=1
OGL_AnisotropicFilter=0
OGL_AntiAliasSamples=0
SoundDeviceOAL=PulseAudio Software
CurrentJoystick=99999
EnableJoystickFF=0
EnableHitEffect=0
NetworkConnection=LAN
ConnectionSpeed=Fast
LastPlayer=adsS

[Sound]
PlaybackDevice=PulseAudio Software
CaptureDevice=PulseAudio Capture

(I'm particularly interested in any "Language" setting)

4) If nothing else works, please post of a log of how you built & installed FSO.

e.g.
Code: [Select]
script /tmp/fso-build.log
(run all the commands to build everything)
CTRL-D
paste-bin (or similar) /tmp/fso-build.log

Thanks for your patience while we try to find & fix this problem.

They both differ from the troubleshooting guide:
http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=70511.0
Is it up-to-date?
The checksums of the .zips of the mediavps_3612 were ok, btw.

Edit: Just saw your post, will try it.

Re: Cannot run Blue Planet mod, help please?
Your build log looked fine... so..... this could be a code issue of some kind.

Could you please try a few more things?

1) fs2_open.ini

The format of yours was a bit different to mine.  Just in case, could you backup your copy, and replace it with my copy, updating it with relevant info for your system?  Maybe something like this:
Code: [Select]
[Default]
VideocardFs2open=OGL -(1280x1024)x32 bit
TextureFilter=1
OGL_AnisotropicFilter=1.0
OGL_AntiAliasSamples=1
SoundDeviceOAL=PulseAudio Default
CurrentJoystick=99999
EnableJoystickFF=0
EnableHitEffect=0
NetworkConnection=None
ConnectionSpeed=None
LastPlayer=Oli-ExpositionS

[Sound]
PlaybackDevice=PulseAudio Default
CaptureDevice=PulseAudio Capture

2) different mods

Could you try running without either blueplanet mod active?  i.e. just run the mediavps and try the default freespace2 campaign?  Could you also try without the mediavps and see what happens with no mod selected?

3) language

Could you let me know what language your version of Ubuntu is running?  I'm guessing it's German, but I'd like to be sure.  I might try loading this onto my PC as well to see if that's causing any issues.

Re: Cannot run Blue Planet mod, help please?
Thanks for your reply.

Tried the .ini

  • both bp and bp2 mod -> crash
  • mediavps_3612 only -> crash
  • without any mod/mediavps -> started, can try to play but error messages because of missing ships (guess what  :D )

And, yes, its german.

Plus: Ancient Shivan War II (the new one) works!

To all people who have that ctd while launching BP: Have you updated your video card drivers? I just did and BP seems to work now.

Re: Cannot run Blue Planet mod, help please?
Alright, I got around to having another go at it. I updated my drivers first though.
This was with wxlauncher, intel graphics card HD (or whatever order they're in)

BP2 normal still crashes at black screen, with the usual windows 'freesapce 2 - antipodies has stopped working'

The debug build runs fine at first (there was a mainhall related error, then a 'campaign not found', but I think that's because I picked the wrong pilot).
Regardless, FS2 and all of the blue planets are in the campaign room, I pick War in Heaven 2
I can see everything in the the tech room without a problem. Everything's a little dark, but that might just be because I was using Battutas recommended BP lighting settings.

I start the ready room. Everything progressees as normal...
Then it crashes when it's done.
Here's the dialog:

Re: Cannot run Blue Planet mod, help please?
Alright, it crashed at the end of loading, but by the windows '...has stopped working...' this time. No output from the game, since I'm pretty sure the windows thing locks it up :\
The log breaks the character limit, so I'll attach it.

I'm using the NVIDIA-driver 304.43 with a 315 card. So it is up to date
