Hi,

I was having this issue but solved it when I realised that the launcher and the fs2_open_**.exe wasn't running on my GeForce graphics card.. (I'm running NVIDIA optimus).  Once I added both of these to the NVIDIA Control Panel and told it to use my Geforce card, not the onboard intel card, the mod no-longer crashed.

Not sure if this will help everyone here, but if you running a system which contains two graphics cards it might be worth a try.

When running WIHP2 using the compatibility files (and the normal files), the game crashes after pressing "Continue" when starting the campaign on the main menu and the loading bar reaches the end.

Try with a new pilot. This sounds like a symptom of the instability of the new pilot code.

For that matter it loads smoothly until the solaris.pof line appears at the top left, at which point the windows loading symbol appears and clicking on the screen makes it crash. Not clicking makes it crash when it finishes loading.

Using fs2_open_3_6_12d_INF just crashes straight away without even starting up upon clicking 'Run'. Here is the debug log for this:
Notice from the installation instructions that:

start the Launcher of your choice, select the release BP build in your FS2 directory (named fs2_open_3_6_17_SSE2_BP.exe), select Blue Planet as the active mod, and play.
fs2_open 3.6.12 won't work.

You're running Intel integrated graphics. Those are going to have a tough time playing Blue Planet. Do you have switchable graphics, where you have an AMD or NVIDIA card in addition to the Intel graphics?

If you do, switch to using the actual graphics card and try again. What kind of computer do you have?

If all you have is the Intel graphics, delete MV_Advanced.vp in the mediavps_3612 folder, adv-bp.vp in the blueplanet folder, and adv-bp2.vp in the blueplanet2 folder. You may also need to disable shaders. Try going to the launcher's features tab and type -no_glsl in the custom flags box (or, if you have wxLauncher, type in the advanced settings's tab's custom flags box).

Also, please don't provide only part of the log. If the log is too big to be displayed in posts, attach it instead. Click on "Attachments and other options", which appears just below the text box where you type in a post.

Are you using the BP compatibility build from this thread? Based on this line in the log, I'm guessing not.

No hardware support for shadow mapping. Shadows will be disabled.

Also, I'm not sure exactly which options in the launcher need to be checked for BP to work, but at a minimum, I'd try checking "Use 3D models for ship selection" and "Use 3D models for weapon selection", both in the Gameplay section.

You want to at least have "Enable 3D Models" for both ship and weapon selection. Otherwise your loadout screen may crash.

On low-end, I recommend killing features in the "Troubleshoot section" (I killed OpenGL VBO, RenderTargets, and glDrawRangeElements)*, and if things get worse, go to the Graphics tab in your launcher, kill specular (depends on the mission, I've had missions where this would work and others where I get multiple warnings), environment, lightshafts, and normal (I would keep glow on).

About resolution, 1280x720 is recommended (if you need to play 4:3 for some reason, 1024x768 or 1152x864 will work). Lower resolutions will give you no HUD.

* (yes, I have Intel GFX, and for some reason, killing shaders will cause FSO to outright crash upon loading.)

I tried to run BP (AoA), but all I get is a "Flag file not found" error in my Launcher when I try to load  3.6.17 BP (other standard builds like 6.16 or 6.18 work fine, and I could start BP: AoA and start playing, but with the message that many errors have occured).
First encounter: ELITE. Later: X-Wing. The eclipse: FS2O. Ah, and a fan of post-apocalyptic Jugger in real life.

Which launcher are you using?  5.5g or wxlauncher?

Also, where have you installed FS2 to?  If it's under C:\Program Files (etc) and you're running Vista or later, then it might help to move the freespace2 directory to somewhere like c:\games\freespace2.

And lastly, can you provide a fs2_open.log from when you have got AoA running?  See my signature for a link to instructions about how to create one of these.

Oh sorry. I forgot to mention the most important bit ... I am running OS X 10.6, with the current Mac launcher. The 3.6.17 BP  doesn't start at all, I will try to produce an error log with your description, thanks!

Thanks for the tip, but same result. Under "Advanced" in the wxlauncher I get the message "The executable did not generate a flag file. Make sure ... is a FS2O executable", and neither .17 BP nor .17 BP (Debug) are running. I re-downloaded both files but with no better results.

The 3.6.17 BP builds that Echelon9 made are for OS X 10.7 and up only IIRC. Try the BP compatibility package.

Be sure to get the extra download (.7z file) mentioned in that first post. You can open it with Keka. Then move the bp-compat.vp file in it to your blueplanet folder and the bp2-compat.vp file in it to your blueplanet2 folder.

Also, once you get BP working, be sure to play using a new pilot.
