Perhaps you should investigate the latest High on Fire album? Not quite the afore-mentioned genre at all, but it should have enough sludge/doom elements to sate the pallet...

I recently discovered Coheed and Cambria. I utterly love concept albums when I find them, and to find a band that has dedicated their entire discography to telling a story is brilliant.

many years ago, when i was a senior in high school i think it was, i saw an MTV or VH1 or something special with them playing.  i was impressed by how talented they were, and it sounded like good hard rock to me.  i went to their website, heard their homepage song (remember those?) "welcome home" and REALLY liked it.  a couple other songs i sampled were pretty good too.

then i bought the album.

oh.  my.  GOD.  i had NO idea this was a super emo band.
HORRIFYINGLY bad.
I like to stare at the sun.

Re: wtf are you listening to? (2013 edition)
Man, that's a great incentive for me to post in this thread again, thanks!

Look, I don't think anyone minds you disagreeing with people, just try not to do it in a way that ****s all over their contribution.

EDIT: And I'm going to respond to your blanket generalisation: Coheed and Cambria are not "super emo". Something like BFMV is what should be called super emo, especially their early stuff.

C&C also created their own scifi universe and each album of theirs tells a story set in that universe, with comics and short stories released alongside their albums. This means that the lyrics of any one song hardly ever stand alone; they're always linked in to the greater narrative and should be viewed through that lens rather than as typical songs on typical topics, though a fair few of them do also work in this way. If anyone likes that kind of stuff I'd encourage checking them out.

Re: wtf are you listening to? (2013 edition)
well i'm sorry it offended you, but i make no apologies for the content of my post.  let me try re-writing it.

based on a TV special and a couple of singles i thought Coheed and Cambria were very skilled musicians and their music would be good.  based on this, i bought their (then) most recent album.  i hated that album, minus the two songs i had already heard and maybe one more.  enough to actually sell it back to a record store.

Some time ago, I've got hooked up on Scottish and Irish music, mostly Irish Rovers and The Corries. Couldn't stop listening to them since then.
Thus: Hot Asphalt and Rare ol' Mountain Dew.
