Something like Home World, and tbh most strat games, with very little modification would translate well to a touch screen format, indeed it also brings in interesting ideas such as being able to perform two actions at once using dual touch technologies
Talking about a RTS with a two dimensional envoirment, like SC, SuCom and to some extend SoSE, I would concede this point to you...
However talking about a full 3D envoirment, like HW or Nexus, already it proves to be a chore to control with mouse and keyboard as you really have to control an envoriment along X,Y,Z-axis while even with a mouse you are chained to an input device that only allows two dimensional control - same goes for a touchscreen...
(not saying that I didn't enjoy HW, HW:C or HW2 but still controlling these games was more chore than fun - on the other hand it made them very rewarding to master

That Kinect thing would actually be kind of awesome. A giant 40 inch tv screen in front of you and with handwaving gestures you'd command entire battlefleets... man that's so awesome. Someone would enter the room and there you were, ordering "Group 1, battle formation delta, aggressive tactics!", and your fighters rogering you in a marvellous blue setting of dancing fireballs and disco-like beams.
This sounds to Star Trek for me too enjoy as battle space control
