Re: THQ owned IPs up for auction
So basically Volition is once again forbidden to develop one of its own creations. Aren't they tired of that BS?**

And I do wonder what happens to Homeworld now.... I guess mostly nothing, although a complete new HW game with new game mechanics and in new formats (like say a new UI based on the iPad), would be exciting, although there's little reason then to use the Homeworld's IP and not a brand new one.

e: ** Funny, the wikipedia page says they are doing SR4 and it will be published by their new publisher... I guess they learned from their past grievances.

The thing is, Volition's status as a THQ subsidiary meant that everything they produced automatically became property of THQ. Technically, they could have split out the SR IP from the Volition package, but as the two are rather linked at the moment, that would have been a bad idea. It's not a thing of learning or not learning about something, it was an industry-standard deal they made (IP license rights vs development funding).

Not grieving for RF IP not going to :v:, the series had one gem (RF:G) despite all the nice ideas put into it (Geomod and the Nanoforge in RF:A) - it's one of those IPs that really should rest in peace...

I really hope that Homeworld goes to responsible publisher which would ... like put HW/HW2 on GoG

a complete new HW game with new game mechanics and in new formats (like say a new UI based on the iPad), would be exciting

Why not make a HW kinect game?[/sarcasm]

Something like Home World, and tbh most strat games, with very little modification would translate well to a touch screen format, indeed it also brings in interesting ideas such as being able to perform two actions at once using dual touch technologies, indeed I think its would be the best "hardcore" gaming genre to translate to such technologies,  the problem with things like high portability iDevices and their clones is that they are just not geared up tech wise to deliver such games with the kind of graphical fidelity with the freedom to act seen in traditional RTS

Re: THQ owned IPs up for auction
That Kinect thing would actually be kind of awesome. A giant 40 inch tv screen in front of you and with handwaving gestures you'd command entire battlefleets... man that's so awesome. Someone would enter the room and there you were, ordering "Group 1, battle formation delta, aggressive tactics!", and your fighters rogering you in a marvellous blue setting of dancing fireballs and disco-like beams.

It would even be good for your shape!

e: Aw **** now I want this stuff badly!

Yes, just like the Steel Battallion Kinecvt thing looked and sounded awesome, but was actually complete and utter crap....

I'm just gonna channel Mattthegeek here and say that that would be a bad idea.

Talking about a RTS with a two dimensional envoirment, like SC, SuCom and to some extend SoSE, I would concede this point to you...

However talking about a full 3D envoirment, like HW or Nexus, already it proves to be a chore to control with mouse and keyboard as you really have to control an envoriment along X,Y,Z-axis while even with a mouse you are chained to an input device that only allows two dimensional control - same goes for a touchscreen...

(not saying that I didn't enjoy HW, HW:C or HW2 but still controlling these games was more chore than fun - on the other hand it made them very rewarding to master :) )

This sounds to Star Trek for me too enjoy as battle space control

Now, having a new Homeworld that makes use of Occulus Rift, THAT would be awesome.

It's not fair to condemn a brilliant concept because of still immature and awful execution being done today. Remember, the XBox "720" is going to come up this year, and perhaps with it a new improved Kinect. I'm not exactly optimistic about it, but I'm patient (my bank account forces me to be so). Perhaps the third or fourth generation will get it just right. (Perhaps not!)

However, consider that Mass Effect 3's sound commands were actually quite responsive and precise.

Now, having a new Homeworld that makes use of Occulus Rift, THAT would be awesome.

Jesus Christ, are you the anti-me or smth?

What part of it is "impossible" for kinect to do? Perhaps it will have its too-annoying quirks (as The_E mentioned in his infamous example) that will render the game just unbearable. But it is conceptually possible to design it today.

Re: THQ owned IPs up for auction
The thing is, recognizing human movement accurately enough so that you can play a real-time strategy title is hard. It may be that the next generation of kinects can handle this with much less latency and higher accuracy, making my point somewhat moot, but I would like to see that first :P

Now, voice commands can work quite well, that's basically old tech (although I for one would feel silly shouting commands at the screen, but I guess that's just me).

Re: THQ owned IPs up for auction
I'd like another homeworld or supreme commander game, but not with either touch or motion controls :-/ What is wrong with people these days? If I am playing RTS, I expect command-console like GUI, even more in a sci-fi theme. Using new tech "because we can even though it has no real purpose" is wrong way of thinking xD Voice is great idea tho :)

Also i'd love to have a worms game with the customizing ability of worms 2 again. You could have set everything in that game, even stuff like angle at which the clusters are gonna come out. It was perfect.

why would we need to get rid of the established stratergy UI because it's on a touch screen?
