Subfolders and files from retail installation
Hi,

Please bear with me on this one. I hope I have the right section or this.

I've recently picked up the FS series again and started playing the mods and extras that people have been working on (kudos, some excellent work out there). I'm currently playing "The Lightning Marshall" before moving on to the main FS2 campaign. It got me wondering with the mission "Hard Rain" if you are meant to start of flying the GTF Ulysses.

So, I had a look at the files for the original game to see if there were any files in the original subfolders, and I couldn't see any which worried me. I decided to backup the existing FS2 directory with all the open extras and mods and do a fresh install of the original game, using cloned copies of the original 1999 CDs (which I think my brother has). Again, there were no files in the subfolders which worries me.

So all in all, the bottom line question is "Are there meant to be files in the sub folders from the retail install?"

As an extra question, is the GTF Ulysses the fighter that is meant to be used for the mission "Hard Rain" (I know this question is more mod specific but it's what spurred me to start this thread in the first place).

Any and all help is appreciated! :)
I do not feel... I think!

Re: Subfolders and files from retail installation
Please post your fs2_open.log file.  Instructions on how to do this can be found in this post.

The first step here is to make sure everything's in the right place, then we can start looking at troubleshooting.

Re: Subfolders and files from retail installation
All retail assets are in .VP (volition pack) files which should be hundreds of Mb each.

Hope that helps.

I think the install is a bit of a mess so I'm gonna clean install it! A few errors have been generated with the log. I just need to save my pilot before I do it though!

Anyways, here is what the log says:-

Re: Subfolders and files from retail installation
No, sorry, that's what the debug executable gives you as warnings. We need the actual fs2open.log file as described in the post linked to above.

This file needs to be deleted.

You do not need to have the FS2 disc in the drive.

Now, I am not familiar enough with Lightning Marshal to make an educated comment about the parser errors in the log, someone who has that campaign installed should check that.

Re: Subfolders and files from retail installation
I forgot to dismount the image.

As it goes, I've ripped everything off and I'm clean installing again.

Thanks or the help though!
