Is that the one where you evacuate the GTD Aquataine from the nebula after the shivans arrive during a weapons test?

If you stayed near the corvette so the Aquataine could use you to guide the beams, it can be destroyed.

Just checked - it is a secondary objective, and according to the mission file it is possible.

I think I did it once, but the Aquataine jumped out w/ about 2% hull.

It also helps if you disarm the Tiamat, then the Aquitaine wouldn't have taken that much damage...;)

I play this mission by arming myself with the HL-7/MS/Stiletto2/Tempest combination and giving hornets to my wingmen. I just send all the wingmen to attack the Tiamat early on while I stay behind to defend the Aquitaine from bombers. While they are moving towards it, I try to disable its three Piranha launchers with Stiletto II missiles. The key thing is to have the wingmen damage the Tiamat as much as possible before its hull integrity falls bellow 11% or so. (at which point the "big ship" weapon tag kicks in and it becomes invulnerable to fighter weapons) They usually die long before it gets to the critical mark, but they are able to damage it enough for the Aquitaine to destroy it later on. Also, if the Aquitaine is able to leave with at least 60% hull integrity, you get a shiny OOG medal. ;)

If memory serves, you get the Order of Galatea for destroying that corvette.

Nada. Order of Galatea cannot be achieved in the campaign, you have to play one of Cetanu's online missions (forget what mission) to get it.

This is new... this is the first time in awhile I've actually seen someone ask for campaign help :D

Anyways, try getting your dumb-as-an-ass wingmen to kill it. If that doesn't work, they make a good distraction for the gunners :D :p

This is incorrect... look at data/missions/SM2-03.fc2

You get the Order of Galatea medal if Aquataine jumps w/ greater than 50% hull.

All of the medals can be earned in the main campaign.

The Tiamat is hard to destroy, and it's not important. I've managed to destroy it, but I don't remember how. I guess I didn't have any special tactic. :p

The "big ship" flag always affects, your fighter weapons can't damage big ships because of that flag. But your wingmates can, just like enemies. It might decrease damage from other than you fighters too, but I'm not too sure about that. And the ship becomes invulnerable to fighter weapons after it's hull is below 10% (not sure if 10%), but I guess wingmates and enemies can still damage it.

And the Aquitaine has to leave with at least 50% hull, after it has launched escape pods you won't get the medal. :) That was the last medal I got, and was it third or fourth or what time I was going through the main campaign before I got it. :)

Ok, I wanted to revive this thread because I never actually got to destroying the Tiamat in the Fs2 Campaign Mission 'Proving Ground', and no it didn't take me this much time to realise that :p. At the time I just thought I'll accept it. Roughly 2 years on and with more flight experience and a better computer I still can't destroy it. I have gotten better but my tactics or strategies in this mission seem to fail, I don't know what I'm doing wrong...

Fighter: Perseus Interceptor
Loadout
Primary:  Subach HL-7, Morning Star
Secondary: Tempest (160),  Stiletto II (5)

Heres a description of what I do in the mission
First of all defending the GTC Oberon is easy, most of my times I concentrate on just one stealth fighter and take it back to the Aquitaine. On completing that objective (Time: 02.55), I'm about 100m infront of the Aquitaine, ready to intercept the first wave of Shivan fighters in about 20 seconds. The Maras come in and I destroy all four with Tempests in less than 45 seconds. After that I'll take out a second wave of fighters (wing of 4 Astaroths) that warp in at the rear of the Aquitaine, assuming my wingmen have elminated all of the Nahema bombers that warped in around the Oberon.
Around that time the Tiamat and a wing (4) of Nephilim Bombers warp in, this is when I roughly message my wingmen to attack the Tiamt, and I destroy the bombers. After that its a few minutes of just taking out weapons on the Tiamat and providing sensor coverage, sometimes I might even take out both engines. As time progresses in the mission, the Tiamats hull reaches between 40-50%, I simply can not get it any lower than that.
About a minute at most before the Aquitaines departure does Epsilon wing arrive.. which is too late. The Aquitaine's hull generally stays between 60-85%. Getting the Medal 'Order of Galatea' isn't a problem.

My problem is destroying the Tiamat???

Any strategies/tactics would be helpful. Also if someone could post a screeny of the Tiamat with about 2% hull and also getting destroyed, I don't believe u can actually destroy it :sigh:

Another question on the side, What is your latest highest ranking?? in the Fs2 Campaign, since u last played it.

You CAN destroy it....I did  it a few times. My tactic was to keep your wingmates guarding the Aquitaine (don't waste them on the Tiamat), and keep yourself between the two capships teo keep sensor contact. Take out some beam cannons with Trebs.
Disabling the corvette is a bad idea, since IIRC this will get it out of range of the Aquitaine's beam cannons more quickly

Trebs are not in the loadout, and neither in the arsenal yet.

Ghostavo EMP missiles screw around with the electronics of a ship, eg bombers can't grab a target lock or capships can't fire weapons.

Well I'll try that tactic tonight Col. Fishguts.
