We're doing something more narrative. See if it holds up. Signup now, but I cannot promise you gene augs or MEC-ing unless it's for story reasons. Yet, anyways.
Contact lost with GSG-9 team in Hannover. Trajectory plotting indicates origination of objects from beyond plane of the ecliptic. Braking maneuvers in orbit indicate objects were under power. Regular army reports damage, no trace of activity. Recommend activation of the project.
Skywatch reports objects inbound. Trajectory and braking suggests South Africa, Johannesburg. Local government has requested assistance. Stand-to Strike One.
"Central, we are down and locked. No sign of civilians. Sky reports no infrared traces-what the Christ is that!?"
"Those bodies....what the hell are they covered with? This green goopy stuff is-"
"Don't touch it! Irina, that thing, what can you tell us?"
"Seems pretty solid. Has some nozzles on it...think we found our delivery mechanism for the goop."
"Keep moving. Stay in cover. No loud noises. I don't want to do anything that might make these active again."
"Signs of strugg-CONTACT!"
"More of them, what the hell are they?"
"Doesn't matter! Bjrane, Irina, cover the store! Anish, with me, up the street!"
"**** ****-**** that stuff burns!"
"Keep your heads down, dammit, heads down! Anish, talk to me!"
"My vest is glowing but I'm okay."
"The door just stopped it. Straight stopped it. That was glass, it wouldn't have stopped a bullet!"
"Christ, you alright!?"
"I'm fine, but glass doesn't stop this stuff! Get THEM!"
"Bjarne, flank left, I'll take right!"
"Target down! Irina, get down!"
"Christ, they just took out their own stuff!"
"Irina, get the last-"
"It just dropped dead."
"It dropped dead. I had it lined up. Never touched the trigger, it just fell over dead. I don't see his gun."
"Find their weapons. Sweep the area."
Of course, we only found bits of their weapons. Scopecams revealed they self-destructed when the operator hit the ground. Seems awkward to me, means they can't go prone, but the short little bastards probably don't need to anyway. Anish and I are out of action for seven days while they patch us up. The ceramic inserts in our vests worked against what I'm told was a plasma; high vaporization temp. The stuff does burn, but mostly it triggers a vapor explosion. Incredible at demolishing most objects, but penetrating power is by guess and by god, which was why a glass door stopped one. The Kevlar in the armor, though...that's not going to do a bit of good.
