HLPX-COM: Enemy Within Beta Site
I'll be adopting similar methods of presentation as NGTM for this. The recruitment list will still be in his thread, I'm just here providing a secondary platform for those who are currently awaiting deployment. Afterall, it's nice to involve everyone and I'm incredibly bored with profuse amounts of time on my hands

Quote
Due to the continued success of the X-COM Project, the Council has decided to fund a secondary team in order to further combat the extraterrestrial incursion. You have been selected Commander to take control of the Operation and Facilities in Africa.

Need I remind you, that you are on a tight budget and will not be receiving support from our Alpha site. You will be on your own. Good luck, Commander

Quote
As you can see by the footage that Alpha Site has recovered, the enemy seems to have dropped in pods like these all over the globe. While the purpose of these at first seems to be a preliminary assault against the general populace, we should not disregard other possibilities at this time.

Quote
Beta Site's first sortie will be landing outside the Egyptian border within the hour

"Skyranger inbound on landing zone"

"Alright people, let's move! We know what to expect for our Grey little friends so keep your eyes open"

"We're going to sweep the area in pairs. You're with me on the left, you two take the right"
"Copy that"

"Scopes clear, move up"

"In position... hold on... I hear something!"

"Two contacts! I repeat two contacts! They're moving!"

"Take him out!"
"Firing!"

"Dammit! Missed the target!"
"I've got you!"

"Target down! Still one more"
"He'll get his turn"
"Contacts! Right side, two of them!"

"Taking a shot!"

"You missed!"
"Dammit, have you got the angle?"
"Not yet, moving to"

"I've got eyes on the meld. Remember those reports from Alpha site? That ****'s going to come in handy!"

"****, another miss"
"You had him dead to rights!"

"Clear comms, little bugger is in motion"
"He's firing! He's firing at me!"

"I'm hit!"
"You okay soldier?"
"Gah, they weren't kidding about this stuff! Burns like hell!"

"She's hit!"
"Holy hell that hurts, I'm moving from here!"
"Stay in position!"

"I told you to stay in position!"
"Yeah, I'll remember that for next time *cough* ****, I think I see my ribs"

"I... everything's so damned blurry"
"Taking him down, stay in cover dammit!"

"Target down, one bogey left. Who's got the shot?"
"Where is it?"
"Not far from the Meld"
"Moving to"

"Sectoid down, we're clear!"
"Get her on the Skyranger ASAP"

Ignore the fact all of their names don't match up. Positions assigned by order from top to bottom
Patriot
SpardaSon21
Scourge of Ages
The Force

And for something a little different, I've got videos as well so people can laugh at my terrible decisions. I totally forgot about that Overwatch

Video logs from the soldiers cams has been compiled and distributed to both the Council and Alpha Site. Beta Site's mission and progress reports will continue as such

Commander's Log:

Being assigned to the Beta Site wasn't my desired place to be, but it's still a big job and I've got to see it through.
Our first mission wasn't entirely a success, the hot headed nature of some of the new recruits leaves a lot to be improved upon. This is not a time to make mistakes. While we are the second line of the last line of defense, we're most likely the fodder of this war. I've been told that anything Alpha Site brings in will remain at Alpha Site. I don't know if the Council is being paranoid, but I can't blame them. If one of those shipments were to get intercepted by the Aliens, it'll put a massive dent in our effort in combating them.

Slightly too many pictures of a cutscene to start.  That'd have been a place to use video, too.

You should totally just repost NGTM-1R's assault on the Antarctica base when it happens.

Re: HLPX-COM: Enemy Within Bravo Team
Scourge's Log:

It's weird, you know? Back at Alpha, all I did was hang around the barracks and train on the range all day. They didn't let anybody near when they brought in "captives" or salvage. Sure, we all saw the guncam video, heard the debriefings, and talked to the vets...

But it's an entirely different thing seeing these little gray buggers up close, hearing their screams (language? I have no idea), and seeing their green insides become their outsides.

It's one thing visiting Irina or Polly in sickbay after taking a bolt of plasma to the chest, it's a whole new thing feeling that stuff burn through 2 cm of the finest body armor human science can make, right into your skin.

But here at the Beta Site, I finally feel like I'm doing some good, you know? Somebody liked the way I put holes in that alien, and my marksmanship scores were good enough, so I'm a sniper now. Sniping's a good job, mate. It's challenging work, out of doors. Plus slightly lower chances of getting plasma'd (again).

Consider that edited out. I was having too much fun
As for the next piece, not a bad idea

EDIT: Made some additional changes to what things are called. Thanks Scourge, Beta does sound much much better  :p

I'll see what I can do about that, but I'm not so certain about the workings of country generation. The list by the way as it stands is the following

Active at Beta Site:

Patriot
SpardaSon21
Scourge of Ages
The Force
Swashmebuckle
BLARGHER

Awaiting assignments either at Alpha or Beta:

Gortef
TwentyPercentCooler
Hobbie
Herra Tohtori
crizza
Rodo (Reincarnation)

Quote
Commander, I see we were not wrong to have assigned you to Beta Site. I expect a full report at the end of the month

Quote
We've got incoming transmissions, seems like we've got a list of abduction sites. Where are we going to deploy Commander?

Quote
Before you decide Commander, it should be noted that Engineering could use some extra hands. Without additional personnel, we won't be able to get those satellites deployed as quickly

Quote
To further that discussion, we're short handed in the lab. If you want us to complete our research faster, we're going to need all the minds we can get in order to make those ends meet

Quote
I've made my decision. We're going to pay a visit to the British

With two soldiers recovering from their first sortie, we've brought in BLARGHER and Swashmebuckle. Sparda has lead with Patriot as 2IC

"Alright squad, we're going to do this pairs. Patriot, you're with me. Swash, go with BLARGHER and sweep right"

"Approach slowly, keep overwatch as you go until we get a sight of these bastards"

"We've got no contacts, moving up"
"No contacts left, moving up"

"We've got eyes on the Meld. It's making a lot of beeping noises"
"No contacts, moving to the building"

"****! Look at them all!"
"They're fanning out!"

"I've got an angle lead!"
"Take the shot Swash"

"That's a confirmed kill"
"Nicely done Rookie"
"Watch it, he's got Overwatch. Don't forget about that!"

"He's got worse aim than me!"

"We could use a little help over here Lead"
"Copy that, I'll see what I can see"

"Additional two tangos, our level Patriot"
"Roger that"

"I'm going in for a better shot"

"Rooks making us look bad Sparda!"
"Yeah yeah, BLARG, get in flanking position"
"Roger"

"Moving to you Sparda, hope you don't mind the company"

"You seeing this lead?"
"Yeah I'm seeing this. Oversight, you getting a read on this?"
Quote
We see it Ground Team. We'll get one of the lab guys to check it out now

"Holy **** that was close! The wall is just gone!"

"They didn't like that flank lead"

"I am so glad they can't hit a damned thing"
Quote
This is Oversight. Dr. Sergei suggests you try shooting the one who started what he's calling a "Mind Merge"
"Copy that Oversight, targeting the Sectoid"

"That's a negative"
"Come on Patriot! BLARGHER is doing better than that"

"Chalk up a kill for me!"
"Whatever rook, it's time for me and my shotgun"

"Hell yeah, buckshot to the face"
"Lead, we've got sectoids still on the move. They're doing that... thing again"

"God damn! **** that burns"
"Stay in cover, I'll get him... run and gun time!"

"Oh yeah, look at that mess"
"Lead, the other Sectoid just dropped dead!"
"Well I'll be"

Quote
Mission Two Report. Note - Seems this Mind Merge can come at a costly price to the Sectoid currently being affected by it

Commander's Log:

Mission two was significantly better put together. Patriot and Sparda work well together, so I'll keep that in mind during deployments. A well oiled pairing those two

The rookies certainly showed up their higher ranked comrades today though taking out half of the aliens before Sparda or Patriot even touched one. They displayed far more battlefield awareness than was expected and that's something I won't forget. While we'll see how they operate together later on, I'll be sure to monitor their progress closely.

Council had also given me a handful of Engineers for taking care of the abduction problem. I'll make sure they're put to work immediately.

Things aren't looking so bad at Beta Site right now, but I can't shake the feeling things will only get more difficult. A recent report from Alpha Site didn't bode well for my breakfast

Oh, and I was about to commend Sergei for his observation, but I soon realized he just took credit from the mission report of Alpha's first mission. Guess he was just looking for some early recognition. I still gave him the pat on the back as it did help our troops, but let him know that things sent to the Lab should also be sent to me (Why I was not sent this report is beyond me). Cutting out the middle man during an Op could save our troops time, and possibly one of their lives

Re: HLPX-COM: Enemy Within Beta Site
Scourge's Log, Supplemental:

Second mission came in successful, no losses, only one wounded. So good news, I've got company in sickbay! Those new rookies really cleaned up.

Though... BLARGHER gives me the willies a little bit. She claims that it's a pretty standard Brazilian name, but the way she writes it on every piece of paperwork, in all caps. And even just introducing herself, she sort of shouts her name. She's a pretty cool girl though, and first class with an auto-rifle.

Patriot's Log:

After being assigned to Beta squad, i didn't think i would like it this much. What with people coming into sickbay on a regular basis in Alpha team, didn't think i'd last two missions in a row without a scratch.
Aptitude for Heavy Weaponry, Commander deathfun told me after our first mission. After the second mission, Sparda got on my case for not hitting a damn thing in that run. Must be the gun itself, as i had my sights dead on those skitters.
Have to ask the Science and Engineering teams to come up with something to compensate for this lack of accuracy. Though i wouldn't mind if the Commander thinks i'm better suited to one of those MEC suits Alpha has, dem things are pretty nifty and i'd love to use one, even with the sacrifice of my limbs.

Addendum: What kind of name is swashmebuckle for a russian? I know Patriot is a weird name, but that has to take the cake, even BLARGHER is less weird than that..

Addendum2: Really wish XCOM recruited in Holland too, i HATE this belgian flag in my neck almost as much as not being able to hit aliens..

With Swash's success last mission, he'll be joining us again alongside a freshly healed up Scourge as Sniper support. Sparda will again take Lead

"Alright, just like last time fellas, standard pairing. Patriot, lets see if you can hit something this time yeah?"
"Har har"

"Swash, move to the back of the barn. Sparda, get on top and be our eyes. We'll take the big doors"

"Yup, two of inside with the Meld"

"I've got this"

"Tally another for Lead!"
"You got a shot Swash?"
"Oh yeah, I've got a shot"

"I'll just be on top Lead"
"Yeah, I bet you will"
"Private Joker today aren't you"
"Here all night folks"

"Alright, stack up on the door, get up high Scourge"

"There she is. Look at that, she's a beaut!"
"Clear comms... I hear something"

"Move up, keep overwatch"

"Patriot, go take a look inside"
"Moving to lead"

"Hey, would you look at that"
"One of those pure energy fellows Alpha site saw"

"Lead, I've got this"

"Well well, you actually hit something today. Everyone stack up"

Not seen in this shot, but two Sectoids made an appearance
"Two contacts! Looks like they're coming to us this time"

"Close the gap, I'll take one of them out"

"That's two for me!"
"Watch out lead! I think he's gunning for you now"

"Damn, you guys weren't kidding!"
"First time is always the worst. I'll get him for you Sparda"

"What is this crap Scourge? A sniper who can't hit?"
"Ah to hell with you Patriot"

"That's how we do it with the big guns"
"Chalk up another win. Let's get out of here"
"You may want to get that checked out Lead"

Quote
Mission Three reports a success with near flying colours (pun intended). As expected, pure energy enemy was within the confines of the UFO

Commander's Log:
While I can admire Sparda's certain gun-ho attitude, there's a great deal of risk in his tactical choices to put himself so close to the aliens. Perhaps when Engineering cooks up some stun guns like Alpha site it'll come in handy, but the risk he keeps insisting on getting himself in will get him killed.

At least the UFO Op went pretty smoothly. I'd feel sorry for any of the cows at that farm, but come to think of it, they probably had already been abducted well before then. Scourge definitely needs some more practice though. Sure, could blame it on the fact the sniper rifle is a bit unwieldy, but out there you can't have excuses... just results.

It kills me that I can't be out there myself...

Re: HLPX-COM: Enemy Within Beta Site
Scourge's Log, Private:

My second mission, in the bag. No kills for me today. Didn't get shot. Sparda did, but he'll be fine in a pinch.

It's embarrassing... we had that little grey jerk surrounded. It should have been an easy shot. Like, 20 meters. I missed. Bah.
I could say it was the sights were off, or my footing slipped, or the gun was unwieldy. Truth is, I was nervous. The adrenaline rush from earlier had worn off, and while there's nothing by plasma could keep me from doing my job... it didn't stop me from shaking just enough at exactly the wrong moment to botch the shot.

Sure, Patriot took out that last x-ray clean and easy, but I can't accept this. Bought everyone a beer, and then spent a couple hours on the shooting range. Actually, I should head back for a bit before lights-out.

Looks like we'll be able to equip Sparda with some stun guns soon

With Sparda in sickbay, BLARGHER fills in with Sniper Support. It will be up to Patriot for battlefield lead

"Alright, we've got some confined spaces here and a lot of corners. Take it easy and watch all angles"

"Scourge, I'm hearing something on the other side of this wall, check it out"
"Alright, but if I get shot it's your turn to buy the round"

"Good call Patriot, two of short little grey fellas"

"Have a green apple!"

"Well well, this is too easy"

"Swash here, couple more in the backlane"

"Too easy!"
"Let's not jinx it"

"Not a bad idea, thanks little guy. Snipers, see if you can get on top of the roof"

"He's hit, but not out"
"BLARGHER, you got this?"

"I was born for this"
"Two more down the alley"

"Well so much for that"
"He's going on the roof"

"Overwatch, careful"
"I don't have a shot, moving closer lead"
"Careful!"

"He's still kicking, can you finish it Swash?"
"No problem!"

"You were saying?"
"I could've sworn I checked these sights..."

"****ing... ****"
"Scourge, you alright?"
"I'd be better if you hit things Swash"

"Given how I think I've lost vision in one eye, I'm impressed"
"We've still got one guy. Give him some pressure"

"Moving target with a pistol, there was no way you could've hit that"

"Stationary target with sniper rifle, no challenge"

"Building is clear, snipers get on the roof"

"They're out on the street... I can hear their chatter"

"Then it's time for OVERLY DRAMATIC EXIT"

"There they are... just what are they doing with those bodies?"

"Well damn Patriot, you gotta give them kudos for that shot"
"Yeah, maybe after I can start inhaling again"
"I'll take this one lead"

"Good ol' two for one"
"Lab guys won't be happy about the meld though"

Another promotionless mission, but it'll be something else when everyone only needs one kill and gets it at the same time

Quote
Mission four report. Standard sweep and clear, but ended with two injured. The scientists will be a big help in the lab though

Commander's Log:

Wasn't the smoothest operation, but I'll take it. I'm not fond with the injuries, but such is the case when you're going up against twice your numbers. They may be small, but they're not entirely bad shots when they want it.

The newly brought in scientists will be a big help. Faster we get those stun guns out the better

Goddamn skitters, almost took my arm off and left me winded for a while..

The medics assure me i'd hardly see a thing of my injuries after they were done with me, shame really, scars are chickmagnets..

Also, the commander assured me i'd be getting something to help with aiming this heavy Machine Gun so i can kill more things. I just hope it's in time before we encounter something particularly nasty and i can't hit a damn thing to do anything about it.

We are extremely impressed with the progress of Beta Site thus far, Commander. Your recent results were beyond our expectations... and that is not a statement this Council makes lightly

Commander's Log:

After mission four, things just died out there... it was eerie. While the troops managed to heal up nicely, everyone around here was getting a little uneasy. We did manage to get quite a bit done research wise though. Even witnessed the first autopsy in the lab earlier. I can't say it was the most pleasant of all sights to behold, but it did net a certain satisfaction seeing our enemy cut open on the slab. It makes me feel like we're making progress despite everything.

Engineering also has a few gifts for us (the least of which the Arc Thrower aka Stun gun). SCOPE and some sort of nano vest which is supposed to provide some small, yet good to have protection for our soldiers. Reviewing the reports, I realized that having at least one SCOPE handy would be ideal.

Oh, and for some reason, Council sent us a surprise care package. I don't know why, but I guess the intention for sending Fedora's and Berets amongst various dyes was to ease tension. Will admit, some of the soldiers were having some fun playing dress up

Quote
Commander, we've got more abduction sites.

Quote
Put them up, let's see what we've got...

Now yes, Patriot is a Corporal in this. Funny story, I had apparently not saved the last mission outcome so I ended up having to basically redo it. Everything is the same minus his promotion and 10 Meld which I tried hard *not* to get for the simple reason I didn't get any last time. Ah well.

With Patriot as lead and armed with SCOPE, Sparda makes a return with his in your face personality. He'll be carrying the Arc Thrower naturally. In hindsight, I've forgotten about The_Force so he'll be in next mission

"Alright, just like before people. We push forward slowly and keep eachother covered"

"Lead, we've got two sectoids at the next track"

"Have you got a shot there Scourge?"
"Could be tricky, but I'm confident"

"Solid hit"
"Meld secured"
"Keep a tight formation"

"Whoa there, the hell are those?"
"Seems like Floaters to me"
"Opening fire!"

"Damn lead, helluva shot!"
"I am loving this SCOPE"

"I think I want one too"
"Swash, are you sure that thing is sighted?"
"Give him a break Scourge, they're not slow targets"
"****, we've got two more"

"Scourge here, taking the shot"

"Like clockwork"
"Time at the range did ya some good"
"Lead, I'm going to test out this new fangled stun gun"

"Look at him twitch"
"Focus now, we've still got hostiles here"

"Swash, took you long enough"
"Yeah, you're one to talk lead. You need assistance to kill things"
"...Touche. Grab that meld, we'll look for the next group afterwards"

"You guys hear that?"
"Sounds different..."

"What the hell?..."

"****, Patriot, we've got cloakers!"
"Where'd they go?"
"Everyone, form up!"
"Copy that"

"What's the plan lead?"
"We wait"

"Holy ****... light him up!"

"Jesus, you nearly hit me!"
"Friendly fire isn't"
"Where's the second on-"

"Nevermind"

"Damn fine work everyone. Damn fine work"
"Oversight, mission area clear, we're extracting"

Commander's Log:

Damn fine work on the part of our troops... I think it's about time I pass out some of these medals I've been holding onto. We're doing quite alright. It's time to give our troops a further boost in morale.

Re: HLPX-COM: Enemy Within Beta Site
Scourge's Log:

[koolaidman] Oh Yeah [/koolaidman]
On the last two missions, I finally got the hang of sniping. It's not just trooping with a pointier gun, ya gotta think differently. Get up high, support, choose targets deliberately, and take 'em out. The extra practice helped a huge amount, and I feel like I'm a credit to team. But those floaty cloaky things were freaky, yeah?

Supplemental: The whole team's really coming together. We're watching each-others' backs, and working smoothly and efficiently, just the way we like it. Also BLARGHER really shone on Operation Morbid Stranger (who names these, anyway? we got a whiteboard to thrown darts at or something?), she's a good sniper.

Re: HLPX-COM: Enemy Within Beta Site
Commander's Log:

I've chosen two fine officers for promotion. Patriot and Sparda. They were that medal well, and hopefully it'll bring them good luck on the frontlines of the battlefield. I've also been receiving nothing but good reports from the Lab as well. They've cut open one of the sentinels and have come up with some interesting genetic concepts to help out our troops. While we haven't used any of our Meld yet, I'm contemplating both options.

Engineering is really pushing me about it though. They want to see what they can do with the stuff, but so far the soldiers all seem content with their current positions.

Meanwhile, I'm just hoping they can hurry up about the power. We're currently strapped to the max and they're taking their time excavating the steam for a thermo generator. Hopefully they get that done fast enough, some of the countries in Council are getting a little paranoid. I need more interceptors as well...

Let's take a look at the squad shall we?
Patriot sporting the cool look with the red you're dead attitude

I AM THE NIGHT. Or so the intention lays. Hopefully the black paint job and badass stache combo intimidates the enemy

This is dead obvious. He's got the burns, he's got the hat, and he's got the mean green look. He's also Australian which I just noticed

Why wouldn't I want to make a Russian more white? Just seemed right! Now he's bright

Like the colour of the flag, BLARGHER will ensure it's the last thing the enemy never sees. Sporting the tuque to keep the hair away from the face. Ain't nobody got time for that

Quote
Contact! Do we have an Interceptor in North America?
Quote
Recently deployed, scramble it!

"This is Raven-1, I'm in range of the target... engaging it now"
"Man, I just can't hit this thing..."
"Fox Three! That's a hit!"
"God damn, taking fire, taking fire!"
"Come on, come on!"
"Major damage sustained, I don't know how much more I can take!"
"Contact lost Oversight... I repeat contact has evaded intercept"

Quote
Commander, we've got no other Interceptors in range
Quote
We'll get it next time. Perhaps a Phoenix Cannon is in order...

Well the inevitable eventually happened. I can make it work
Quote
Commander, your presence is requested in the Situation Room

Quote

Quote
Alpha Site came across a similar event a little while ago. Seems like they're at it again
Usual suspects for the mission, but this time I've included The_Force since I have been neglecting our rookie. Patriot will again resume as lead with his newly polished red armour

"Alright squad... sweep the area for any survivors. We might get lucky again"

"Scourge, take the roof. Everyone else push forward on the ground"
"We've got a contact already lead"
"Some fine shades he's got"

"****, that was a close call"
"Scourge, gets eyes on"
"Moving up... got another contact lead"

"Rookie, push up, Sparda... shoot the bastard"
"With pleasure"

"Stay out of that cloud rook... won't bode well for your lungs"

"**** me..."
"So much for staying out of the cloud"
"My lungs feel like they're bursting right now"

"This is Patriot, another contact down the road"

"Get out of the cloud Rook, and see about killing that guy"
"Copy"

"Dammit, way off"
"Scourge, take it"
"Way ahead of you Patriot"

"What a mess!"
"Thin guy, moving to the roof!"

"These guys are terrible shots"
"Hold that thought for later, we aren't done yet"
"I'll show him how it's done"

"Or not... he's on the move again"
"Why hello there"

"Once is fine, but twice Force?"
"My bad lead"

"You've got to be kidding me!"
"Now *cough* you know how I feel Scourge"
"Patriot, let me have him"
"Go for it Force"

"Target down"
"Solid work. Alright, push up. Scourge, keep overwatch"

"Got eyes on a survivor"
"Yeah, and another one of those thin alien folks lead"

"I will never get used to being shot by plasma"

"**** you kindly. Alright, everyone, cover the extraction. Scourge, stay up top, Force, keep overwatch at that corner... Sparda, do what you do"

"Contact! Rooftop!"
"Contact! APC!"

"Eat lead"
"Good shot Rook!"

"I missed only because he died prior"
"Yes, we know Scourge"
"Just saying"
"Wait, who shot the guy on the roof?"

"I honestly do not know lead"
"Whatever, he's gone. Push towards the Skyranger!"

"What's that guy mumbling?"
"No idea"
"Scourge here, more folks inbound"

"I won't hold you to it Rook... my turn"

"Break any more skylights?"
"I could"

"Another one... taking him out"

"VIP has been escorted to the Skyranger. Everyone form up. Let's get out of here"
"Let me grab some of that wine first..."

Mission Six report. The operation was met with quite a bit of resistance, very unfrenchlike. Of course, they were aliens, not the French. Medical will be busy for a while

Commander's Log:

It's deja vu. Conventional weaponry was used in the deaths of the French, and everything about it just seems off. This is twice now
Hopefully our captive will shine some additional light on the matter

Actually... I haven't heard anything from Alpha Site in a while. Reports seem to have stopped making their way over here. I'll get the Techs to take a look at things, maybe it's something on our end.

I've got a bad feeling about all this.

Patriot's Log, Entry 3:

Son of a ****ing ***** Thin Men..
Hit me in the chest and in the leg too..

Gonna have a chat with the Doctors and Commander Deathfun about volunteering for that MEC Project Engineering wants to start up.

Made Sergeant too, the guys nicknamed me Brick, seems apt, considering i'm volunteering for the MEC Project to boot.
