The Time Traveller's Wife - anyone seen it? Opinions?
Went to the mountains for a few days, stayed in a cabin and watched movies and played World of Tanks. One day, while I was playing, everyone else watched The Time Traveller's Wife. I was watching too, but not paying 100% attention. I was watching close enough to hear the dialogue and follow the story though.

Anyway, I wanted to get opinions from anybody here who's seen it. (Especially Batutta, or other professionals)

Alas, I haven't seen it or read the book.

I saw it, though I can't recall if I read the book or not.  I know we have it because the wif bought both.

I thought the movie was decently done.  Full of science holes, but the plot rumbled along quite well.  The thing I found a little odd was
Spoiler:
if the daughter could control her jumps, surely there was a way she could have interfered with the circumstances leading to her father's death.  Then again, the movie was entirely about making the point that even with time travel invoked there is such a thing as destiny.
"In the beginning, the Universe was created.  This made a lot of people very angry and has widely been regarded as a bad move."  [Douglas Adams]

I have also seen the movie in scrambled bits. I have lost the interest in seeing it in full ever since I've seen a consensus of a sort in the internet on how bad the movie was compared to the book. Which I have yet to read.

I guess because I was isolated from the full experience of focusing on the film, I was able to pay attention to the actual dialogue, and it sounded so... overdone I think is the good word. Just like, nobody talks like that. People are speaking in the movie like they're reciting prepared speeches on destiny and junk, it really bugged my senses.

The plot jumped around way too much for my taste, sometimes it followed the time traveler, sometimes his wife, sometimes neither, back and forth through time in every direction. I'm not afraid of a complex plot, but when it's scrambled that badly, I can't take it.

As for the story itself, I couldn't get emotionally invested, because there didn't seem to be any danger or unpredictability. The traveler knew exactly what his past, present, future, and demise would be like. He even got to know his daughter after his own death. Without any actual danger, the drama seemed to fall kind of flat. I might be spoiled though by other, better fiction though.

So that's what I thought, but I wanted to get opinions, maybe I'm crazy and it's an incredible movie, or maybe I'm fully justified. idk, but thanks for the responses so far.

Don't watch it again. I thought it blew donkey balls with a third ball from a horse, and then lastly topped off with 3 pairs of ovaries.
Every pilot's goal is to rise up in the ranks and go beyond their purpose to a place of command on a very big ship. Like the colossus; to baseball bat everyone.
