Happy Birthday HLP.
Without you folks, I'd be stuck using a Win98 VM playing FS2.  :D
Beam cannons, they light up your life. Literally.

Christ! It's been a while, nice to see you still pay attention to the old girl. Where is Thunder these days?

(For anyone who is confused, I'm Thunder. I have been through a couple of 'name changes' since then ;) )

Reading the thread helps :P

Compared to most of the people posting on HLP now, I'm old - so I can use that as an excuse.

Given that according to your profile, I am older than you, I laugh at the suggestion :P

I've been to other online communities, but HLP is still the most mature one I've ever been in, and for that alone I am grateful. Something tells me I've actually learnt a good deal when I was active here, but I honestly cannot remember what exactly I learned apart from using the free space on my hard drive as RAM. :nervous:

It's good to see that headdie's been doing a good job updating the community's Facebook Wall. I remember deciding to post a link to every new highlight and major release on it back in 2011 or 2012 for fun, but it seems to have compelled a number of Facebook users to also observe and contribute to it on occasion. For once, doing something out of boredom seems to have yielded some good results.

Real-life has caught on pretty quick after I got an incredibly stable job in November, but even before that, my activity on HLP dropped off considerably. It's funny, because unlike Descent, which seems to have left some sort of impression that makes me go back to playing it once in a while, I've not had the same impression with FreeSpace. I no longer have the excuse of running FreeSpace on an Intelgrated because I'm typing this on a PC that has a proper GPU with 1GB of dedicated memory, an i5, 4 GB RAM and Windows 8.1, but I've not felt the urge to reinstall FreeSpace for a very long time. :blah:

Well there's a sorry tale  :(

I guess this marks fifteen years of posting about FreeSpace for me. Thanks for enabling this peculiar life choice.

Makes me feel old :)

I joined this forum before the SCP team had even announced the -glow tag for textures, which was the first visual update to the game iirc. This was before the SCP was anything more than a few people downloading the source code and 'twiddling' with it.

Just look at what it's become since then.

Before the SCP it was some amazing FRED work, there were a few full on campaigns that have since disappeared.

Honestly though getting the source was the best thing to every happen. It's been 13 years here, and 15 years since I first heard the command to "dive!" and the game is still played and still going strong.

I'm sure many of the old Volition guys like Dave Baranec are just as happy to see this site continue.

This really makes me think. I came in contact with HLP for the first time in about 2007, when looking if there was any way to enhance the graphics for FS2. Back then I either didn't bother to register or forgot my account credentials years later. Anyway, the 6 years I have been lurking around here (without much presence, granted), means that I have been around one year less than HALF of the time this community has already existed. This is ... ridiculously insane and an extremely awesome feat for all the people here at the very same time.

Part of me believes and hopes that we will still be around here for another decade. No Star Citizen and whatnot can ever change the belief of mine that Freespace should not be allowed to die. Ever.

It's really odd if I think back that when I joined in 2001, I was only 29 years old, and now, here I still am at 41...
