Basically, I understand the reasons, but it's a pity that the state of FS2_Open + Media VPs isn't good enough that this wasn't necessary. The fact that you feel it is, shows that we haven't done enough to make installation and selection of mods smooth enough that it wasn't necessary.

Wow, I saw this on Steam and was like strolling down memory lane.  I got FS 2 back when it came out and loved it.  Had one heck of a time locating FS.  Had to scrounge around in stores.  So I had to come over to the forums.  For grins I hit the forum button that pulls up replys to one's own posts.  Heck, 2009 was the last time I played this. That was my 3d time through FS2.  I have FS so was wondering if there was any advantage to getting FS on Steam?  I see something about multiplayer.  I could go for getting my arse shot out of space.  I suck in multiplayer but enjoy it with the right crowd and I'm thinking this is one  dedicated group I could find fun with.  Do folks use TeamSpeak at all?  That would be a gas.

From what I understand multi on the steam version doesn't actually work, they just have it tagged as such.

yeah, I would imagine getting a connection to the PXO servers might be somewhat problematic.

Yeah, seems unlikely they would have rewrote the engine to support a non-PXO multiplayer.

If FS2 does come to steam, and if it gets working multiplayer, I wonder how VAC or whatever would work with the various mods around here.

I think this *will* be different. The entire FSO modding is built over FS2, not FS1, and with the FSO Installer ready you just need to point people to that one single download. A pity though that the FSO Installer doesn't have any checkbox for Blue Planet...
