well, i don't know about actually making a thread about it, but yeah it was a pretty cool movie, i saw it about 2 or 3 months ago.
for an asian movie it's actually pretty good filming quality, and it offers dubbed english and subtitles.
for those of you that aren't going to see it, but just want to know what it's about
it's about this all-star soccer player, who used to have such a powerful kick he never missed a penalty shot in his life... but then someone broke his leg, and he went from the best of the best to becoming just a janitor, working for the person whom (he doesn't know) had his leg broken... when his employer one day tells him that it was him that had his leg broken, he's sad, (rightly so) and he quits and starts walking the street. He notices a man practicing Shaolin on the side of the street one day, and he talks to him. the man invites him to practice shaolin with him, and gives him a (handwritten) business card... the one-time soccer player says that shaolin is no match for soccer, and he sticks the card into a coke bottle, and shoves it at the man. the man does this dropkick with the coke bottle, and the bottle goes so high you can't see it anymore... the man is amazed, but he walks away. a few days later he sees a wall broken, and curious, he goes up to see what broke it... in the middle, is the coke can that the man kicked... (showing how 'powerful' shaolin is)... as he removes the coke bottle, the whole wall collapses, and on the other side, is this shaolin guy (who gave him the business card and kicked the bottle) with about half a dozen gangsters surrounding him... suddenly they all go at him, and there's a 2 or 3 minute fight scene, (except that the shaolin guy 'vowed' never to use his shaolin to hurt anyone) so he's just blocking and pulling his punches back about an inch from the guys faces... you can imagine
The retired soccer guy has new respect for shaolin... and during the next half hour the shaolin guy and the soccer guy get a team together... they train, and use their 'shaolin' on the ball... there's some AWESOME effects in the movie, such as when the ball is kicked so hard all the shoes start orbiting it (they show it in slow motion)... that's pretty neat! they go on to beat all teams until the final round, where it's the shaolin team vs. the team of the guy who had the soccer guy's leg broken years ago (the guy he used to work for)... but they cheat, and they use this drug to make the men strong, fast, etc.
There's a pretty cool scene where the goalkeeper gestures for the shaolin team to try their best... and so they kick for like 2 minutes, and the guy keeps blocking and all... he's like a machine, it's pretty cool!
They proceed (the shaolin guys) to get their a**es kicked until at the very end, this girl the original shaolin guy met a long time ago (who happens to practice Tai Chi) comes in posing as a male (shaved head, etc.) and is the goalkeeper... the final shot, they pan the camera all the way around the player (Matrix style
) as he jumps and for a second they show him about to kick the ball (camera goes round a few times) and then he kicks... it comes right through everyone, fire coming out the back of it (it's really well done) and to the Tai Chi girl... as it gets to her (this is game-point for both teams btw) she spins it round (you've seen Tai Chi movies i'm sure... you can imagine) and redirects it at the opposing team's goal... the original shaolin guy kicks it and traveling so fast the ground is being ripped up it hits the bad team's goalkeeper, but it's going so fast it pushes him right THROUGH the goal...therefore the 'shaolin' team wins...
phew... now you know!
pretty good movie... not good enough that i recommend you buy it, but if you have the opportunity to rent it one day, then go ahead, it'll amuse you
