  • Is a lubricated bug a butterfly?
I hope it becomes as cool as it looks.

But the trailer doesent tell something about the actual game.
It even doesn't give some hints about the gameconcept except that you may control a space dreadnought.
Understanding do you me?

That's basically it. You control a big huge flying ship, and fight against other big huge player controlled flying ships. It's going to be an F2P title. More than that isn't known at this time.

Dito ...

Looks like some MOBA and I'm not really into those so much. /shrugs

Worst case it may turn out to be some kind of (prettier, granted) version of this: http://www.stellar-impact.com/en/

More info:
http://www.digitaltrends.com/gaming/dreadnought-yager-e3-preview/?tru=3jH2b#ixzz35bGwQNVT

"Multiplayer amounts to 5v5 showdowns in which teams compete for points. Features like ship customization and perks — realized in the game as unlockable officers that offer different passive bonuses — remain nebulous, as does Yager’s take on in-game purchases."

"Destroyer: The Destroyer is Dreadnought‘s well-rounded capital ship; it doesn’t excel in any one category, but its decent speed/maneuverability, shielding, and offensive/defensive capabilities make it effective in virtually any role.
◾Dreadnought: The Dreadnought is a powerful tank class, with its heavy armor and weapons loadout balanced by the slowest speed and maneuverability of the five ships revealed so far.
◾Corvette: The speedy, lightly armored Corvette is your scout class, able to zip behind enemy lines, both to feed intel to the rest of the team and for flanking maneuvers.
◾Tactical: The pristine, white armor of the Tactical cruiser stands apart from the darker metals making up the other ship classes, and that helps players to easily identify it as the go-to medic. It’s not a very hardy fighter, but it’s got a couple of different options when it comes to repairing damaged teammates.
◾Artillery: The gun-shaped Artillery cruiser is Dreadnought‘s sniper class. It fires slowly and crumbles quickly under fire, but its damaging attacks maintain pinpoint accuracy at the most extreme distances."

Maybe someday God will give you a little pink toaster of your own.

I enjoyed Yager back when I was a kid. But the implications of MOBA gameplay means I'm probably going to pass unless it somehow differs.
In the arena of logic, I fight unarmed.

Yeah, no thanks. Looks nice. That's about it.

Would be cool to have a homeworld-type game with that fidelity though.

Would be nice to have a HW-style story in a game with that sort of fidelity. I'm getting tired of all this multiplayer crap. Is the value of a good, singleplayer story really this forgotten? It looks like one of the best looking, best playing space games of late is Blue Planet. It seems that you can get, at most, either pretty graphics and shallow, multiplayer-oriented gameplay (with no story whatsoever), good story with shoddy "artsy" graphics, or good gameplay with a sandbox environment (often with mixed-bag looks) and little in the way of story. Well, BP happens to have all three, while being a free mod for an open source game engine...

Well, I would debate you on "good" story, at least so far as the sequel are concerned.
But in either case I think you're missing the point when it comes to games. People are creating these free to play, multiplayer games because of probably two things:

1. They can retain their playerbase over time
2. They can get more money from individual players

Some of these free play to games on mobile devices get players to spend thousands of dollars on them. One of my friends was playing some Marvel War of Heroes or something on mobile and a player in his clan said he spent 10K on the thing. He himself spent about 40 bucks on it, some PoS game with very little interaction beyond managing a team. When you can get hundreds of dollars off a person over a few months, instead of 20-60 for just one time then financially it probably makes more sense to try the free to play route.

And one of the reasons its hard for games like MMOs or MOBAs to break into the market is that players have already invested in these games hundreds of hours and that investment (and friends on those games) encourages them to stay with those games rather than trying something new. They lure players in with the free to play model, some players end up paying more on the game than it would've cost at retail, and some players stick around and keep putting money into the game.

The most that SP games do to retain players is typically adding a multiplayer component, or releasing periodic DLC for the subsequent year or two.

Gearbox picked up the HW rights so, maybe they'll end up doing something with it beyond a remastering which they're doing now.

There are also a few SP games coming out like Starlight Inception, though in its pre-release state it didn't get great reviews. Haven't tried it myself as I'm waiting for version 1 not version 0.something.

Then play the original I was talking about. HW2's got nothing on the original Homeworld. The original's a classic, and for a very good reason. Also check out Cataclysm, it's an expansion pack of sort, also quite good. HW2 is the weakest of the three.

Was talking about BP actually.

HW is great, played it through to the end.
HW2 had a different feel and couldn't get into it. Was more of a traditional RTS with expendable units in a given scenario rather than long term ship retention.

Well, then wait for the second part. That's where the real fun starts. :)
