Someone with Windows 7 Professional x64, I need a favour...
...since Microsoft are jerks and yanked the open Digital River download for Windows 7 ISOs and replaced it with a new site.

To explain:  I need a copy of the Windows 7 Professional x64 ISO.  Microsoft allows you to download these by inputting your license key on this site http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-recovery and validating it.  Except it didn't work.  I spent the last 20 minutes with Microsoft support and the site doesn't support Family Pack License keys, which apparently mine is.... and they don't have an ISO they'll distribute through the Answer desk. Just lovely.

However, they did confirm that a regular ISO *will* work if it's on a Pro x64 license as well.  I postulated that I could have a friend run the tool with their license key and use the ISO... the tech seemed to think it would work.  Hence my request.  The ISOs are generic and not tied to an individual key - would anyone be able to run the bloody tool, grab the ISO, and arrange to file-share it to me? (Since I assume no one wants to disclose their license key, even to me :p)

Would appreciate the help.  This is idiotic.

Yet another problem not faced by people who pirate the damn thing but which inconveniences those who actually buy your product.

When will companies learn that this sort of thing actually encourages piracy?

Anyway, good luck getting hold of the ISO.

I still have the physical disk - I'm trying to cheat and get the latest fully patched ISO for a reinstall is all, since there are some updates that you can't slipstream.

And I'd rather not pay taxes/shipping for convenience.  If I must I'll suffer through the lengthy post-SP1 patch process; was just hoiping someone around here - maybe someone who wants an ISO themselves - might be willing to lend a hand.

Head over to a torrent site, look for an un-touched 7 x64 pro iso with sp1 included.

Download

Verify MD5 with official one from an MS site

Tygger, does that have SP1 integrated?  If not, don't worry about it.  I should have specified in the OP - not looking due to complete absence of install media, but rather out of covenience/security

No offense, but http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cryptographic_hash_functionn  << basically, if you have a hash from MS, and it matches the hash generated from a file you downloaded (no matter the source, torrent, FTP, or ripped off of a scratched writable disc that you found in the trash), then it is 100% genuinely bit for bit the same as a shining golden disc straight from the hands of Bill Gates himself.

Of course, there is always a chance that the files will not match (in which {rare in my experience} case you can just try elsewhere), if the uploader is not reputable (else he would not have claimed that the ISO was untouched) -- it's usually easy to avoid wasting your time with bad downloads if you examine the uploader reputation and the comments section.   (Of course, always verify the hash after downloading anyways.)

People tend to treat torrents as if they are cesspools of viruses that will attack you if you even think of them.  You just have to use a bit of caution and common sense is all.    ;)

EDIT: Oh, and that's not to discredit what you did, that was nice.

Hi Rev. P

Thanks for the update on the link.

I was not sure about this since I have posted the CD image as it was from MS and not the serial key or any crack, but thanks. I'll remember this next time.

Your in luck
I've got a Win 7 Pro x64 ISO sitting on my hard drive, straight from digital river before it went down.
If you still need it PM me and I'll upload it and share the link.

Yep.

Software IP laws are really screwy in the United States, and lately companies seem to be more sue happy than in the past.  And since HLP is hosted in the US...

You get the idea I trust. :)

IMO, your intentions were good (hence just the post edit), and if the image MD5/SHA1 signature matches what's available from MS, I personally don't have a problem with it (especially considering the hoops that they now apparently impose on people for wanting something as crazy as a clean image of the operating environment that hasn't been bastardized with OEM bloatware), but we have to follow the laws of the land that the machine lives in.

Not that I condone it, mind you, but if you are going to do things such as these, please take it somewhere that isn't publicly viewable. ;)

Re: Someone with Windows 7 Professional x64, I need a favour...
Yeah, that is kinda dumb since the image by itself is useless without the key, which wasn't included, which means that any user has either a) already purchased the key hence the license to use it was obtained by said user, or b) already pirated or will pirate the key / crack elsewhere, meaning the problem lies elsewhere, not with the CD/DVD image provider:nono:

Ah, well.  Stupid is as stupid does, yay copywrong.  :ick:

Hi JR2

I agree.
Working as an IT manager before and support engineer I can tell you that this goes above and beyond stupid.

No, they didn't. That points to the site I tried.  It only works for a very limited set of keys; anyone with OEM or Family Pack Retail (mine) are currently **** out of luck.
