Author Topic: Freespace disc woes  (Read 2194 times)

Hey all.  I noticed that the BWO demo was almost released, so I decided to dust off my copy of Freespace 2 so that I could enjoy the new campaign.  I had lent the game to my brother, so I went over to his house to get it back.  Disc 2 and 3 were lying data side down on a concrete floor.

Needless to say, they no longer work.

I tried resurfacing the discs but the scratches were too deep.  A search of local software stores revealed no copies to buy.  Ditto for online stores.

I don't know what to do.  I know that a request for an ISO of the CD's will meet with accusations of not actually owning the game, but I DO own the game and I would like to play it again.  If there's anything I could do to prove that I own the game, or If someone knows where I could purchase a new copy, please let me know at [email protected] or in this thread (assuming it doesn't get closed)

Thanks in advance for any help rendered.

Moses.

Try asking interplay for new copies of the disks, they may or may not help. In case they don't the only method would be to go buy it (try chips and bits on the net) or more shady mehtods.

I think the Interplay store still has it, or Amazon, or even E-bay may also have copies.  But don't quote me on these, I'm just guessing.

I thought only CD 1 was used for installation... so you could still play it if only CD 2 and 3 are damaged. You just can't play the main campaign, everything else _should_ work fine.

Well, a buddy of mine showed me this pink goo that he bought a game store and it worked perfectly!  All we did was buff the goo into the cd and it installed and played.  So my problem is solved.  As a sidebar, NO online store carries Freespace 2 anymore.  It's listed as out of print on interplay.com and amazon.com and it doesn't even show up on the other major sites, like ebworld.com and chipsbits.com.  Strangely enough, the original Freespace is STILL carried by Interplay and available in the online stores.  It would seem that a consequence of the released source code is that no one can buy the game anymore.  Typical of Interplay.

You might want to hire a small gang of men with bats to beat it into your brother how to treat CD's properly too ;7

All of my CD's are backed up, just incase of something nasty happening to the originals.

Although there are several stores that srill do actively sell the freespace titles, Electonics Boutique here in Britain is one such store chain (I believe they are in the US as well).

It's just a case of looking around in the right places.

And perhaps this will teach you to back up your CD's (where possible).
Thats no moon... hes dropped his pants!

Ahhhh.....memories.  I bought my copy of fs2 @ renamed software boutique a good 2 years ago.  It was THE very last copy in the store and I havent seen one there since(lucky me).  I am in need of a new disk 2 im afraid(mine snapped right down the middle)...if you need proof i'll take a few pics if i need to...

I would prefer that a copy be sent to me(PM me if you think you can) but an ISO will due.

An ISO will not do. Seems that the admins many and varied attempts to point out how bad warez is considered around here falls on deaf ears. If you do wish to get hold of an ISO of Freespace look elsewhere, don't talk about it here. (No I don't care if you've bought the game, no amount of pictures of software and CDs is good enough proof since anyone can download images of CDs and manuels these days from the net anyway - believe me).

So keep the advice in mind, don't talk about ISOs of the game here.

I'm not upset - just a little confused as to how people who come here continue to think that asking how they can aquire the game for free via warez methods is something that's ok, it's not - don't do it :)
