I see someone had a good birthday, but I dont want to comment on the LotR thing because I wouldnt be able todo it with doing an impression of Connan O'Brien of LotR fans :)

Coldplay - A rush of blood to the head.
I can't stand coldplay...

LoTR(whatever little I saw) was awesome in theatres...

If you want real music: Download some Slayer, Pantera, Metalica, and Godsmack.

Coldplay are a poor man's Radiohead. But  @ Metallica as an alternative to them... :p :D

Okay okay, so the new stuff really is a lot better than Parachutes. But isn't it out at the end of the month, not now?

I agree it's listenable but a bit repetitive. Shiver is the best song off that album. The end of Parachutes is horibly dull though. :doubt:

It's out?!  Damn..... I've been waiting for that album for months.... (odd - I'm on the mailing list, so I normally get a postcard pre-release......  got one for the single 'In My Place'...)

BTw, IMO 'Spies' and 'Trouble' are the best songs on Parachutes ;)

I really liked parachutes and I also like radiohead and would not consider coldplay to be the cheap version.

As for metallica, pantera etc. I got bored of those when I was 17. Metal isn't really my bag anymore although I do like System of a down. I'm a changable fella though.

I got the non widescreen version of LOTR, 3 days before the offical release. Somehow...

I was just razzin' you. :p

I still don't think Coldplay are a patch on Radiohead (yet) for sheer experimentalism but RH do have a few albums' lead on them.

I wasn't miffed by your comment.

I still have my little theory that there's no such thing as bad music as long as someone likes it. It's a good thing too, look at how diverse music is.

There's music that you like and there's music you don't like, just because you hate some genre/band doesn't mean it's bad. :)

I don't think Radiohead have made a good song for aggggeeeeessssss........ not that I've heard.  I can only remeber 2 of the singles from the last 2 albums - Pyramid Song and some really depressing one with a big heart and a train in the video.  That said, Just and 'anyone can play guitar' are classics :)

I happen to disgree with you, Maeg. I'm not just going to leave it at that, I'll tell you why.

By saying that music which was previously qualitatively 'bad' and 'good' now has equal merit you destroy all reason that a person has to strive to make music - they can just dash anything off and it will still be 'good'. The object of criticism is removed.

Basically, rather than making the pretty-good-by-the-sounds-of-it new album they have, Coldplay could have written some Hunagrian nose flute limericks, and you wouldn't be able to say it was bad. However, since they'll get criticised in the current climate so people won't buy the record, they've tried hard to make a good album.

Meh. Kid A and Amnesiac are two of the bravest statements that a band of Radiohead's commercial magnitude have made in recent years. Even though they're flawed, at least they tried to put down the guitars and do something different than The Bends-era stuff (which I like, but) that everyone now copies or the feeble grunge of Pablo Honey (which I really don't like, sorry).

And besides, everyone knows that any track off OK Computer is better than any track off their first album. :D :p ;)

Hmm.........I had a quick look in the high street today and couldn't see the coldplay album anywhere - how did you manage to blag one?  earlier release date over in your neck of the woods or summat?

BTw, has anyone listened to 'the Coral' 's album yet?  Thinking of buying that......

I don't think you're following me, let me give you an example: I hate rap music with a passion, I cannot say that rap music is bad though because my friend likes it and other people listen to it and enjoy it. It's just something that doesn't agree with me. You can't claim that something is bad just because you don't like it.

If Coldplay did release a hungarian nose flute album and someone enjoyed it then you can only conclude that it is good music because as music itself is an artform it is how the person interprets it and not just a pattern of notes played at a particular pitch and volume.

See what I mean now?

BTW Aldo, it hasn't been released here yet either. My friend somehow 'acquired' the tracks and burnt it onto a CD for me. I'm going to buy a legit copy as soon as it hits the shelves though.

Okay, I followed you all along - but what I meant was that although there is good music that you don't particularly like, like rap (and face it, there are some good rap artists out there who put effort in, use imagination etc) - there are also people who make bad music.

There's a difference between music you don't like because you don't like it, and music you don't like because it is genuinely, technically bad - as in, dashed off in a few minutes with none of the thought, imagination and effort that others take.

I guess the nose flute analogy was a bad one. It would take some effort to play it, and if Coldplay could do it with skill, then yes, they're "experimenting" and this is good. However, if their next album was 8 tracks, 10 seconds long each of a single chord guitar strum, it would be bad. :D

Well, if that sort of thing sold well - I'd have an album. :p

coldplay album seems good, though... I got a few of the tracks off of WinMX, and they're topnotch.  Release is Aug 26th, BTW - so only 2(ish) weeks :)  shame the supergrass ones not till the end of Sept, though :(
