Re: RELEASE: The Aftermath Reboot
Played the first 2 acts and it looks AMAZING with the top MediaMVPs.  I did have that problem other people had with the rescue mission in Act 1 where the Corsair doesn't move, but I used the 5-time suicide trick to skip.  That wasn't one of my favorite missions anyway

Re: RELEASE: The Aftermath Reboot
Thank you MJN! :)

In the last update (end of July 2022), Herkie changed things slightly...he no longer had a two files "V1" and "V2" for the two campaign versions.  He combined the two campaign versions into one file (the newest "V1") but had two campaigns selectable in the campaign room now.  I hope that didn't complicate things for you since that's different than how things were organized in the last update you did for us (back around April 2022).

Wait till you get Act 3. It get pretty crazier from there on. Act 1 is just Richter's merc missions, nothing special. There are the most simplistic designs ever made because it's just the first missions, sort of a introductory missions for new players. Then the campaign escalates, the chaos gets more chaotic.

The mission "Client Rescue" in Act 1, the one with the Corsair doesn't undock, I can't figure out the bug since I can't really test it (I can't run FSO 22). The mission works perfectly on my end (using FSO 3.7.4). CT27 is the one doing the tests for me and report the bugs. On my end in order to do the fix, I have to make logical assumptions. It's doing the fixes without the benefit of testing it myself. And so far, aside from that Corsair mission, everything is fixed and they work.

Anyway, that Corsair mission is just a story mission foreshadowing TBG, the sequel. Donald Esquire has a critical role in TBG. In AFR, he is just a passable character.

I have played this before, although it has been a while and it wasn't with these top notch graphics.  It's as hectic as I remember, but it feels harder than it used to be though

Because AFR uses Fury AI. But I modified the specs of the Fury AI.

Re: RELEASE: The Aftermath Reboot
There is one mission in particular that will break: Act 1: Client Rescue. I don't know know why this is so but I had done everything by the book, even used an early  Triton model of MVPS 2014. SEXP, FRED-wise its everything by the book. I don't know why this is so.

Anyway, Skip it using cheats. That's the only thing that has a bug in AFR and I cannot figure out why.

Re: RELEASE: The Aftermath Reboot
Another way around that mission is to switch MVPs to 4.0 for this mission and then switch back to a newer version after.

Re: RELEASE: The Aftermath Reboot
Real war is hell. I got injured many times, 4 purple hearts. In AFR, what you had experienced, the lack of weapons, ridiculous equipment, the desperation, even loadout difficulties, even the ridiculous comments in the command briefings are real life. I have seen your reactions in playing AFR and TBG, there are exactly what I have felt in real combat situations and in my career as a soldier... I've seen hell, I don't want to go there again. But what I did in AFR and TBG is to give players the taste of war. I mean, all the briefings are not accurate, even the command briefings. The GTVA High Council (the Security Council) tells you lies, even in the techroom descriptions. But... you are right about one thing... AFR is an experience. No plot, No story... but an experience. An experience I had and tried very  hard to forget.

However, in TBG, all these questions are answered. But the narratives are still the point of view of the GTVA High Council or High Command, and they could be lying.

The secrets of the narrative of AFR and TBG is with me and CT27, of course. And everybody else can speculate or redicule about it.

I will post a thread in HLP regarding the secrets of AFR and TBG soon.

Re: RELEASE: The Aftermath Reboot
This is the fix for the 3rd mission in AFR, Act1 - "Client Rescue." This will fix the issue of the Corsair not undocking. Place this file in the "missions" folder inside the "data" folder where the AFR mod is located. If no such folders exist, make them. Download this tiny file:

Re: RELEASE: The Aftermath Reboot
@herkie423 I just want to thank you for creating this campaign. It was really fun, surprisingly long, and in some ways just a better campaign than the original FS2 campaign (with a really weird ending in FS2).

I'm just curious: is it possible to keep Aquitaine survive in the final mission? I only had one attempt at this mission, there was no debriefing, so I wasn't sure if I did pass this mission perfectly. :)

Thank you again and God bless you. I don't know why you put so much effort into this, but I enjoyed it so much; it was amazing.

As someone who worked with Herkie a lot, I can answer this question for you:
Spoiler:
The Aquitaine is meant to be destroyed in the final main mission of AFR.  It was sent with a skeleton crew on a suicide mission to distract the Shivan flagship (Grond) while the GTVA's Archangel came in and delivered the killing blow to Grond.  While Aquitaine is meant to die in the mission, it is possible to save the corvette that escorts it.

Also, just in case you were wondering, Admiral Petrarch was not on board the Aquitaine for this mission.  He was willing to go down with his ship, but GTVA Command refused to let him (they wanted a major hero of the Second and Third Shivan Wars to survive).  Petrarch survived AFR and died of natural causes at some point between AFR and AFR2 (TBG).

I hope you give the sequel, AFR2 (aka The Blue Guardian) a try as well.

Thank you for your support.

It is my sad duty to inform everyone that Herkie passed away recently. I just found out my self from Facebook and have had it confirmed by his brother. His mother passed away recently too and they are treating it as a suicide. %uD83E%uDD7A%uD83D%uDE25

Re: RELEASE: The Aftermath Reboot
This is absolutely heartbreaking news. Rest In Peace, Herkie. I offer my condolences to his brother, children and the rest of his family.  :(

Herkie, like TopAce, leaves behind an awesome legacy in HLP. He created two epic, massive campaigns that tell a complete story, which is a rarity.  Many players have played and enjoyed Aftermath 1 and 2, and I hope many more will get the chance to experience them too. I extend my condolences to CT27 and everyone who worked with Herkie.

Herkie423 entertained me. Herkie423 frustrated me. I'm grateful that I got to speak to herkie, if short, and experience the campaigns he was passionate about creating, and finishing.

My condolences and prayers go out to his family, friends, and CT27, who was the closest to Herkie in this community. May his soul rest in peace.
