*shrugs*

If he doesn't answer his email soon, I'm going to CAM Australia to get his attention, but otherwise I have no real opinion on the matter.

I'd prefer to do my own thing.

Agreed, it's a nice gesture but we shouldn't have to conform to a guideline (although some things like making images in JPEG format just make sense) if that's what we want to do...

I think the two of us know him well enough that we could get away with being rebels.  ;)

I like this idea :). But, if you do end up deciding to mail it to him on a disc, Me or Icespeed or Pegasus V should probably do it as it's cheaper to send mail from inside Australia (and less likely to get lost :) ) I have a burner and stuff, so there's no worries there. Also, if you haven't already told him Icespeed, maybe you shouldn't. I mean, I don't  know about anyone else, but I sure as hell prefer to get unannounced presents than something I've had to wait weeks and weeks for...

BTW, does anyone know if he follows AFL, and if so, which team? If it's Sydney, then I'm starting to get an idea as to what to send... :D.

"...The quintessential quality of our age is that of dreams coming true. Just think of it. For centuries we have dreamt of flying; recently we made that come true: we have always hankered for speed; now we have speeds greater than we can stand: we wanted to speak to far parts of the Earth; we can: we wanted to explore the sea bottom; we have: and so  on, and so on: and, too, we wanted the power to smash our enemies utterly; we have it. If we had truly wanted peace, we should have had that as well. But true peace has never been one of the genuine dreams - we have got little further than preaching against war in order to appease our consciences. The truly wishful dreams, the many-minded dreams are now irresistible - they become facts." - 'The Outward Urge' by John Wyndham

"The very essence of tolerance rests on the fact that we have to be intolerant of intolerance. Stretching right back to Kant, through the Frankfurt School and up to today, liberalism means that we can do anything we like as long as we don't hurt others. This means that if we are tolerant of others' intolerance - especially when that intolerance is a call for genocide - then all we are doing is allowing that intolerance to flourish, and allowing the violence that will spring from that intolerance to continue unabated." - Bren Carlill

i personally think that just because you "know Setekh" is no reason why you should be better than everyone else and not participate in this, but that's just my opinion.

i'd have to disagree with you there too... if everyone sends in their own thing, we'll have who-knows-what!  we'll have people sending home-videos of themselves saying "hi" in!  If this is going to be zipped together and sent to him or whatever, then we've got to stick to the same standards with everyone.  Just because you're a retired admin or you're an admin shouldn't mean you get to send something different in i don't think!

Heh - don't worry, I'm planning on sending my contribution along with the rest of you. I was meaning that there were more than two people who Setekh well - there's no way I'm missing out on sending my 2 pence along with everyone. :)

About limiting, I'd recommend a size limit, since that's basically the only concern on Setekh's side (unless we end up mailing him a CD, of course). If he ends up needing to download whatever it all is, I'd highly recommend keeping it to ~100 kb per person or so.

ok sandwich, i was getting worried that you weren't going to participate :)

I don't know what we'll do.  Depends on the size... if people want to get creative (i recommend it :)  ) then the size may be too much for him, and we may have to end up mailing a CD... which is no problem, cause although i don't know where he lives, i'm sure there's at least one other forum member who lives close to him (in the same country at least)...

Someone said he lives in Australia?  i'm not positive, but i remember someone in this thread saying that.  If he does, there's a lot of people here from Australia.  Black Wolf is one of them.  If he lives in North/South america i'll mail it, but if i have to then i'll mail it anywhere in the world.  I don't mind spending a couple more $$$ to make him happy.  The only concern is international shipping isn't as 'secure' as national shipping... and there's a chance he wouldnt' receive it

You weren't around much before he left, I gather?

*looks at joined date*

That's what I thought. :p

Setekh does live in Australia - Sydney, IIRC. And no need to go hunting for someone who lives semi-close, icespeed is a RL™ friend of his. :D I'm sure she'll love to collaborate with anything we do for Setekh.

If I was going to do something for him, I'd much prefer to do something of my own.  It's a nice idea and all, but it's not for me.  I've sent him a couple emails, I'm waiting until he gets back to me.  Until he does get back, I'm not worrying about what he's up to.... from what I hear, he's doing well and I trust he can take care of himself.

I'd like hear from him, and it'd be a shame if I didn't, but if I don't, well, life goes on, there's not much I can do.

i've known Setekh from the VBB, and also from when he's helped me with renders and stuff, and hosting.

Shrike, i know he's got a 'real life', and we're doing this just to say that we miss him and hope he comes back!  I don't think we're interfering with his 'real life' in any way!  i just think it'll be a nice gesture! i would've thought you'd take part in it, since you know him and all, but *shrugs* oh well

Same thing, I'm just a little more.....direct.  ;)

im sorry i ain't been round for a while but as it is im about to get banned from the internet by my parents, so i have to limit myself.
anyway, now that i've caught up on all this...

cd sounds good. but i don't understand why you don't just mail it straight to him direct? of course, if you want me to burn the cards on to cd someone will have to tell me how cos im basically computer inept except for all this netsurfing and wordprocessing.

whoever asked if i told him about it, don't be an idiot. as if id do that.

whoever asked if he follows AFL, he doesn't. Not particularly closely. nor any other sport, i belive. not closely.

SYDNEY!! AUSTRALIA!! for the last time.

about knowing setekh: well, if you don't know him, and he doesn't know you, there's no point you sending him a card, is there?

i think that's about it.

love always God bless you guys all

there is no way we'd send it to him.  a burned CD is the best way, and we could mail it to icespeed or directly to him.
