*smites Creative Labs*
I have never been as fed-up with a product aas I am with my SB Live Gamer sound card. The drivers that come with the CD cause BSODs unless some Creative program or another is not installed along with them. I've never been able to update the drivers from the web either - BSODs.

Recently Creative changed their driver line from Live!Ware to a more generic name since they are moving along with Audigy, Extigy and a whole bunch of bizzare sound card names.

Anyway, I thought I'd give them one more try at driver updating... heh. :doubt:

Now Win2k is dead. Totally and utterly. BSODs no matter what mode I boot in - Normal, Safe, Last Known Good Configuration - zilch. Crapola, vamoose - gone. And it BSODs, of course, before it loads Windows, so I can't change anything.

*sigh*

Don't go there, kiddies - it's not worth the pain.

*places Win98 boot CD in drive*

I've been wanting to reinstall all my OSes for a while, though - I just haven't been able to spare the time.

*Begins installing Win98*

Maybe this time I'll get it right...:doubt:

*deep sigh* :sigh:

I have a SB LIVE! x-gammer.  I've had it for years, using the drivers that came with it, on Windows ME.  Never had a problem with it.  It might, however be the Creative Player.  That thing is crap, and I never touch it as it locks up everytime.

Creative don't quite seem to get the hint when people complain about the lack of stability when it comes to their products, especially with certain chipsets. However, I've had little or no problems with the potentially lethal combination that is SbLive, KT133-based motherboard, and Win2k, using LiveWare 3.0.

If you really want to try them, there are other SbLive WDM drivers avaialble that aren't supported by Creative. Though I'm sure they can't be any worse than what you've already experienced.

Although it's probably too late since you've downgraded to Win98, did you try physically removing the card? Or even moving it to another slot?

You could try checking the bootlog first and removing the offending line(s).  Not for the faint of heart :D

Good idea, but again - no time. :doubt:

I'm gonna triple-boot 98, 2000 and Mandrake 8.2. I've got 98 installed and working "great" (it hasn't crashed yet in the whole 45 minutes I've used it). But amazingly enough, I'm in a great mood. :) Partly because I finally had a chance to chat with a good friend whom I hadn't spoken to in a long while yesterday, and partly because today was an amazingly cool, partly cloudy day - I simply hate the heat, and today was cool - in both senses of the word. :D

At the moment I'm taking advantage of a clean Win98 installation to run 3DMark 2001 SE. The results just aren't the same as on a bogged-down Win2k install. :)

Stealth, if you read this by the way, don't wait for me to send in a card for Setekh - I can't acces Photoshop, and installing it is very low down on my priority list... :doubt:
