The War Begins: Uniting The Factions
This is the second part of The Final War for the Multiverse. Part 1 and important background information can be found here.

This is a more interactive thread where everyone who chooses to join will participate as a player, in command of a ship or fleet.

If you wish to join, write a short character profile, and please specify what ship(s) you have and what universe you start in.

Available universes include:

- Original FS/FS2 universe
- Inferno Universe
- Blue Planet Universe
- Blue Planet alternate (Shivan victory) universe
- Sync Universe
- Transcend Universe
- Twisted Infinities Universe
- Mindgames Universe
- Babylon 5 Universe
- Cold Element Universe
- Wings of Dawn Universe
- Neo-Terra Victorious Universe
- Homesick Universe
- Star Wars Universe
- Machina Terra Universe
- Dimensional Eclipse Universe
- Destiny of Peace Universe
- Between the Ashes Universe
- Homeworld Universe
- Chandrasekhar Universe (the universe in which the events of Part 1 take place)
- Halo Universe
- Teeth of the Tiger Universe
- Syrk universe
- The Antagonist Universe
- Scroll of Atankharzim Universe
- Battlestar Galactica Universe
- Wing Commander Universe
- Reciprocity Universe
- Assassin Universe (original universe containing races including Colonizers, Lyyg, Varc, Umbrans, and Weer)

Other universe are available but you would have to request them and I will tell you if they can be part of the story or not.

There are restrictions on what races you can play as, and how powerful/numerous your fleets can be. This isn't a war that will be won by direct force of arms - rather, clever strategy, negotiation, and teamwork is required.

Races/beings that are off-limits to players (others might be included, which is why I will have to approve your profiles before you can join the game):

- Shivans
- Vishnans
- The Transcendant
- The Great Darkness
- Brahmans
- Colonizers
- Umbrans
- Weer
- First Ones (Babylon 5)
- Mahasu Coalition
- Nightmares

Captured/reverse-engineered ships and technology from these races can be used, however, if you can obtain it.

Tips:

- Try to start in a universe with other players, or with factions that have access to multiversal transit technology, so you can coordinate with allies across universes.
- I would recommend against playing as a highly belligerent race/faction, as uniting against the Shivans will be very difficult if you are constantly fighting your potential allies.

In-depth Tips:

Spoiler:
- The Vishnans are currently engaged in a defensive war - they have their hands full and are unlikely to provide any direct military assistance. However, they could prove helpful in other ways.
- The Umbrans are one of the most advanced and powerful races in the multiverse, and could be invaluable allies. However, they are also a supremely arrogant race, to the point where they refuse to communicate with or even acknowledge the existence of lifeforms that they consider inferior to themselves. To gain their cooperation it would make sense to do so via a proxy, if you can ally with another faction of comparable sophistication. Failing that, you will have to do something to impress them, which is quite difficult.
- The Mahasu Coalition is a wildcard. While they are technically Shivan, they are quite unlike any Shivans you may be familiar with. It might be possible to negotiate with them and gain their help to sabotage the Shivans from the inside, but on the other hand they might betray you and turn you over to the Shivans. Dealing with them is a gamble.
- The Colonizers are a race of machines that are incredibly powerful, intelligent, and adaptive. However, they lack understanding of things like individuality, diplomacy, art, religion, etc. They exist only to carry out their primary programmed directive - multiply and colonize as many planets as possible, destroying any other lifeforms they encounter. In other words, they can't be allied or negotiated with - at best they can serve you as an obstacle/distraction for the Shivans
- The Weer are... weird. They are shapeshifters who are technologically primitive, but only because their natural abilities are so powerful and versatile that they never had any reason to develop advanced technology. What's more, their psychology is completely alien. Typical diplomatic strategies will prove useless here.
- The Trishula is the most powerful Shivan warship ever created. It possesses capabilities that are quite literally beyond Terran comprehension. Engaging it directly (or at all) without powerful allies and a carefully crafted plan is tantamount to suicide. However, if it could be destroyed, it would deal a crippling blow to the Shivan war machine.
- Necrospace, the new weapon the Shivans are using, is not something they created, but rather something they discovered. It is incredibly dangerous and even the Shivans themselves do not truly understand its potential. In fact, attempting to weaponize it like they have is an incredibly foolish plan that could easily backfire on them.
- Many of the Astra weapons cannot be countered by conventional technology and tactics (i.e. nothing you can start with). Obtaining ways to defend against these weapons should be a high priority.
Shivans view most other species the way we view infectious diseases. They think they are doing good by curing the universe of them. After all, no one mourns the fate of smallpox.

Huh? Where did you obtain knowledge about these campaigns? I'm just wondering. :) AFAIK MT was the only of the campaigns mentioned that released their design docs publical; and TI and MG are actually still secret. Or is it just about the backstory of these campaigns?

Just the backstory and the species and stuff. This is of course an original story so nothing in it is canon to any released or unreleased campaigns, which means I can improvise somewhat.

Re: The War Begins: Uniting The Factions
Can I join using the R-Type Universe (specifically R-Type Tactics 2 universe)? It would be interesting to see how R-Type's omnicidal, enigmatic villains, the Bydo, interacts with the equally omnicidal and enigmatic Shivans, especially given the Bydo's backstory and origins. Not to mention I have been looking for an excuse to slap an R-9A cockpit on a Hercules for some time. If not, a Homeworld 2 Hiigaran flotilla commander, set immediately after the events of the game, is fine too.

I'm not familiar enough with that setting so sorry.

That is definitely doable.

Re: The War Begins: Uniting The Factions
Captain Raonaid Somtaaw
Gender: Female
Age: 29
Distinguishing features: Brown hair and irises, 175cm in height, athletic build
Current assignment: Commanding Officer, carrier HNS Phuur-Nan
Profile: Before the Vaygr War began, Raonaid was the loadmaster of an old Chieftain Mk. 3-class Ore Processor, performing the same thankless yet essential job her ancestors had been doing for more than a century, using the exact same tools of the trade. Her daily routine consisted of overseeing Workers unloading, identifying resource-rich asteroids, laying out hazard zones, coordinating repairs and, if the Workers brought home a jackpot in the form of a purple resource crystal, personally controlling the PDA beam that strips it layer by layer. The war saw her, her ship and entire crew being drafted into the Hiigaran Navy as a second-line resource operation, but as the war situation deteriorated, she was assigned to the new carrier Phuur-Nan to manage the carrier's resourcing operations. As fate would have it, the Phuur-Nan's commanding officer would never arrive, his shuttle being shot down in the opening waves of Vaygr attacks at Sarum. As the only officer that could be spared with any commanding experience, she was put in charge of the Phuur-Nan and sent to the front as the first carrier in the Pride of Hiigara's task force. She commands her carrier much like how she led her Processor crew: efficiency, safety and logistics are all her game. While this brought her into conflict with other carrier commanders, who were often former strikecraft pilots, the fact that her ship survived the Mothership's entire journey is enough to silence most critics. Her excellent dockspace management was key to getting enough strikecraft out to intercept every single ADW that was launched at Hiigara, buying time for the legendary Sajuuk to destroy all three Planet Killers.

HNS Phuur-Nan
Profile: The Phuur-Nan is named after the old Kiith Somtaaw Shaman-class carrier of the same name, which was broken up for scrap on the eve of the Vaygr War, after nearly a century of service. Part of the new Phuur-Nan was built with material taken from the old carrier. During the Vaygr War, the Phuur-Nan was undergoing final assembly at Shipyard Naabal in the Sarum System when it was attacked by a Vaygr assault force. Fortunately, the Pride of Hiigara task force arrived in time to rescue both the shipyard and the unfinished carrier, which was launched with only its frigate facility installed and turned over to the Pride of Hiigara task force. It served with distinction throughout the war and was tasked with supporting the bomber squadrons that intercepted Vaygr ADWs fired during the final battle above Hiigara. After the battle, the Phuur-Nan is assigned to patrol the Hiigaran Control Zone, training up new pilots, gathering resources, building ships and dealing with Vaygr stragglers as the rest of the Hiigaran Navy pushes the Vaygr out of the Hiigaran Control Zone and back to the Outer Reaches.

Phuur-Nan modules:
Fighter Facility
Corvette Facility
Frigate Facility
Advanced Sensors Array
Research Module (repurposed for flight crew instruction and training)
Advanced Research Module (repurposed for flight crew instruction and training)

Fleet composition:
1x Hiigaran Carrier Phuur-Nan
12x Resource Collectors
2x Mobile Refineries
3x Scout Squadrons (3 scouts each)
3x Interceptor Squadrons (5 interceptors each)
2x Bomber Squadrons (5 bombers each)
2x Gunship Squadrons (3 corvettes each)
2x Pulsar Gunship Squadrons (3 corvettes each)

Good stuff. I'm assuming you're starting off in a variant/instance of the Homeworld universe, right? We'll wait for more people to join before starting.

Re: The War Begins: Uniting The Factions
Yes, I start off about 3 months after the victory over Hiigara. The Phuur-Nan got rear echelon duty in an already-secure sector. I am wondering if you want the players' fleets/ships to get sucked into another universe immediately or do you want to Shivans to start pouring in the start zone en masse?

Well, I don't know right now what to expect from this or what can be expected of me either in this, but I want to have the option of joining in, so I'll just nip over to the WoD Forum Game threads to go get something I left there...

This is my fleet, the 2nd CRF.

-----

Centre Fleet

Fleet Carrier - CRF Soaring Spirit
Fighter Squadrons - Hand of Lorric, Soaring Swords, Spirit Shields

Escort Carrier - CRF Towering Presence
Fighter Squadron - Overlords

Escort Carrier - CRF Brave Soul
Fighter Squadron - United Souls

Escort Carrier - CRF Burning Inspiration
Fighter Squadron - Burning Spears

Escort Carrier - CRF Honour and Duty
Fighter Squadron - The Line

Right Flank

Escort Carrier - CRF Unbreakable Tenacity
Fighter Squadron - Reapers

Escort Carrier - CRF Firm Resolve
Fighter Squadron - Resolution

Escort Carrier - CRF Faith and Valour
Fighter Squadron - Lionhearts

Left Flank

Escort Carrier - CRF Boundless Confidence
Fighter Squadron - Coolhands

Escort Carrier - CRF Vehement Determination
Fighter Squadron - Determinators

Escort Carrier - CRF Driving Force
Fighter Squadron - Widowmakers

I, Admiral Lorric and my beloved, undefeated 2nd CRF go to war for a third time.

I had logos for all my squadrons but they don't seem to be showing in the thread anymore. :(

Still, you only wanted a short post, and they'd have taken up a lot of space. That was my fleet for the rehearsal / beta test for the second iteration of Spoon's forum game, which unfortunately doesn't look like ever happening as nothing has been mentioned of it for the better part of 3 years.

As you can see, the fleet is rather one dimensional, but I think I should stick with it. Iirc the carriers themselves were strong enough to take more punishment than most fleet craft in the various player fleets, while the Lord class fleet carrier was capable of duking it out with just about anything. The weapons systems on the carriers are no joke but wouldn't be able to match up with a dedicated destroyer, though their compliment of strike craft would swing the balance. I had a big advantage at engaging from long range thanks to all the squadrons and the long range missiles on the carriers, and my fleet was more nimble than anything the other player factions could field, but if someone had managed to get their fleet in close from any of the other player factions I would have got mauled. So that's how my fleet works. Ideally I would work with someone else in this game who could cover for that weakness and get between me and that kind of enemy.

As for WoD tech itself, I think the Freespace Shivans that we've seen outside of the jugs would get mauled by WoDs Terrans. Unfortunately, it's clear the Shivans are bringing a lot more to the party than that.

You'll have different encounters depending on where you start, which is why picking your starting location is important. You may not even encounter the Shivans immediately.

This is good, but you should specify where you are starting off. Keep in mind you can choose to start off in a universe different from the origin of your fleet (this can be explained by strange subspace transits and dimensional displacements caused by the use of powerful technology elsewhere in the multiverse).

Remember the Blue Planet techroom descriptions stating that most Shivan technology was deliberately hampered to perform far below its true potential. That's not the case anymore. With your starting fleets you will not have much of a chance against anything other than scouting forces - but if you play it smart, those are the only Shivan enemies you'll be fighting in the beginning, before you are ready for anything stronger. Think of it somewhat like your party leveling up in an RPG. Right now, you're at level 1. Get to level 99+ by sharing tech, scavenging, making deals and alliances, capturing enemies, etc.

The Final War For The Multiverse

Re: The War Begins: Uniting The Factions
Alright, I’ll be joining, too.

This time it’s not a fleet, but a single ship.
Universe: Babylon 5 Universe, exact date will be left open to the story teller, though it has to be after 2268 because of the White Star ship he’s commanding.

Last known location: A small station in orbit of Proxima III, Proxima System.

Name: John Fisher

Age: 37

Distinguishing features: Short brown hair, 185cm in height, athletic build, though a little bit out of shape due to bridge service. Born on Mars in a small town west of Olympus Mons on August 4th, 2232.

Profile:

Fisher grew up on Mars, living the life of a freelancer, smuggler and mercenary since he set foot on his first ship, the freighter Damocles in 2249. During the Shadow War and the Earth Alliance Civil War, he and his crew built up some reputation by smuggling essential spare parts, food and weapons for the resistance fighting a guerrilla war against Earthforce on Mars’ surface. As the conflict ended and the red planet finally was granted independence from Earth, Fisher moved across the galaxy, looking for trouble, fortune and money ever since. In 2268, he somehow got his hands on a damaged White Star class cruiser by gambling with some shady people on a small station somewhere in Centauri space. After spending some time to bring the ship back into fighting shape by using his old smuggling connections to gather weapon parts, blueprints and additional equipment, Fisher and his infamous gang of freelancers are looking for new adventures between the stars.

Ship: Nightfly

The Nightfly is an advanced cruiser with Vorlon bio-armor, artificial gravity and a nasty weaponry for its size. Like all White Stars, it is very maneuverable and also has the punch to take on single capital ships.

Class: Medium Cruiser, White Star class (though repurposed to fit the needs of Fisher and his crew)
Length: 475.6m
Crew: 50 (usually), but right now his crew only consists of 28 people.
Engines: Gravimetric Engines
Jump Capable: Yes
Gravity: Yes

Weapons:
1 Quantum Discharge Beam Cannon (Primary)
2 Neutron Cannons (Secondary)
12 short-range, fast firing Pulse turrets for increased protection against fighters and bombers (tertiary, installed after aquiring the ship)
Recently 2 torpedo tubes were also integrated in the hull by Fisher’s engineers, though this needs additional testing. Appropriate torpedoes also have to be acquired somehow

Defenses: Magnetic Discharge Beams, Vorlon defense system (yet to be fully tested, the two engineers of his crew still can’t get it fully operational)

Auxiliary Craft:
2 Kestrel Class Atmospheric Shuttles
2 Badger-class Starfury
4 SA-23E Mitchell-Hyundyne Starfury

EDIT: If necessary, the ship description and characteristics can still be changed. I hope this works for you and your ideas ;)
The starting location maybe will be changed. Since Fisher and his gang still didn't manage to discover every secret aboard the ship, their alien jump drive (I mean come on, it's a mix of Mimbari and Vorlon tech, right?) might let them strand in another universe, maybe close to another player

On the one hand you said it didn't matter much what you start with so how would I know what to get, or even go between universes in the first place? Could I say just decide to go grab this thing:

And tow it along with us?

I never actually played Blue Planet beyond Aquarius so I might need some help with relevant knowledge.

The transmission in the first part is from a later point in the timeline, but you can start earlier. Furthermore, the timelines can be changed - but time manipulation technology might play a part and make this complicated. Needless to say, you can start in any universe pre-Shivan invasion, unless they're already there in canon.

If it's not something that your group in-universe could have reasonably acquired then probably not. But don't worry - other players who decide to start in your same universe can help you, and lacking that, there will be other ways (both natural and artificial) to travel between universes, or multiversal travelers (even non-hostile ones) may visit you.

Blood for the blood go -BLAM-

40K is fun, though I can see the factions being rather inherently unwilling to work together, or with anyone else, which may pose a bit of a problem here. I am not the GM here, though, so don't take anything I say too seriously. (Although I think there were instances in which the Imperium worked together with the Eldar or the Tau, don't ask me, I am no Librarian.)
