I'm about to pack up mu computer to take off to school, and thought I'd take the time to see who else is going to college now.  I'm heading to Duke University myself.  Who else is in school?
who needs a signature? ;)

Define 'school'

If you mean Uni, then yeah.  I'm in 3rd year from October.

If schoool includes non-college/uni then I'm in the last year of middle school... well, almost :p (school is starting in another 2 weeks during which I have to at least incresase my math skills to something like basic calculus.....)
Science alone of all the subjects contains within itself the lesson of the danger of belief in the infallibility of the greatest teachers in the preceding generation . . .Learn from science that you must doubt the experts. As a matter of fact, I can also define science another way: Science is the belief in the ignorance of experts. - Richard Feynman

I plan on going back to school as soon as possible. Its just a mater of saveing up money.

Junior year (high school) started this monday, but already I feel like I've been in this hellhole for centuries. I guess that's the beauty of the IB diploma, sigh...

I suppose I would technically be in 11th grade but I am not enrolled in any school, so I still have a year or so of free time. I might take some classes at the nearby U of Maryland: College Park this year but will not be formally enrolled in any university until next year, so I guess I do not have to worry too much yet. I suppose I might have to start submitting applications and stuff sometime soon though...

On a side note, does anyone here know if it is possible to do both undergraduate and graduate degrees at the same school? You see, I would like to get the grad degree (the important one) at one of the big universities since the name will be useful in getting a job, but if getting an undergrad at some big place rules out that one for grad, that wouldn't be very useful.

ah, that's when it starts to get fun. If you keep going on the calculus/analysis path, you will really start to love this stuff. ;7

Hmm, that's strange. You're 15, aren't you? When did you start school or have you skipped classes?

Edit: And CP, join ArchSpace, you will like it.

It has a lot of tech. ;7 Like cloning, though I don't know if it affects anything. :p

I think I entered kindergarten when I was 5 or something, but I can't remember exactly. I thought 15 or 16 is the usual age for this grade though? (I will be 16 in two weeks or so)

As for Archspace, I am really thinking of joining one of these types of things; I have been a bit busy lately but I think I still have enough time to participate in those things. The main problem at the moment is that my primary computer is not working, but I think I will be able to get it back up in a few days.  (I am now on my dad's really crummy office laptop that is slower than a 10mhz 286 in many ways despite having good hardware, due to the security junk the IMF people have installed :p)

well, there are some nuts like Taniyama who did that (and of course the notorious Kaczynski), but you could probably find people like that in any field. :p :D

School (both grade school and university) is completely useless for actually learning anything in my opinion - the best way to do that is just to learn independently with the textbooks and so on - but it is unforunately necessary to get the degree required to get a job. I think I can avoid the remainder of high school, which is what I am doing, but I will still have to go through the university system. :(

There's always homeschooling or unschooling but one requires an awful lot of parental time and the other requires an awful lot of trust and self dicipline. Generally speaking the universities (certainly in the UK) exist for a different purpose as schools (which are to teach obedience and subordination), so are a far nicer and more productice place.

You're right though, the system is rigged so that you have to go through school/university to be considered qualified in whatever subject. The best thing you can do is just differenciate between the education and the "education" and ignore accordingly, complete all the exams how thay want and try to change things when you have the respect of everyone. Because of course nowerdays, you don't know anything about anything unless you've taken a standardized test on it
