What OS do I play Freespace 2 on?
I`m running 98SE ... If certain files have been deleted, it may be due to programs being deleted that share files with other programs... Watch that you don`t delete a shared file that is not being used at the moment, because it may be needed for a program that you run at a later time... I say this because i`ve had this problem in the past... Now if it asks me if I want to delete a shared file that is (not currently being used), I say NO, hell no...;7

Warning, on win2k theres a damned auto-update that runs whenever you're on the net that downloads updates for windows (taking up valuable bandwidth).

Get a firewall. Kill the programs access.

It only does that if you're stupid enough to download the update from Windows UPdate to enable it in the first place.

Now with Windows XP, its enabled by default, but it only does it WHILE YOU'RE ONLINE.  It only takes what...two seconds to turn it off?

98SE is probably the best, but better to get XP and then run fs2 under 98SE compatibility mode...I have fs2 on my Win2kpro sp3 and it works great (when my TNT2 isn't overheating :wtf: )

Excuse me but you'll find I did not download the update to enable it. So stop being so bloody arrogant. :(

W00T?

Why's that? I have used both W2k and XP to play FS2 and there's been no need to use compatibility mode at all.

Considering the memory management under the NT kernel is FAR superior to 9x's...

You obviously have no clue what you're talking about.

Freespace and Freespace2 run just fine under 2k and XP.  Matter of fact, they run FASTER in 2k than in any other OS.  Well, unless you turn off the visual crap in XP, then it'd be the same as in 2k.

Both of you are wrong and both of you are right.
2K does have superior enviorment management (both volatile and permanent) however it launchs games like FS2 at a low priority. win2k launcher solves such problems by allowing you to set thread priority for games and other apps. Just don't set it too high

vyper: You mean it runs programs and games with normal thread priority by default.
