It's a shame the deferred lighting engine can't handle directional lights. It'd be sick if ship lights could be real lights, rather than faked with glow maps.

Actually, it can. You can do glowpoint lights like that, though I don't remember if it's in trunk yet.

Well, I remember working with that feature in a BP test build. Seemed to work OK...

Until glowpoints can cast shadows (without killing your PC), properly done baked glows will always look better than glowpoints.

Well, except for when other ships should be illuminated, like with hangar lights.

Yeah, I arrived at the same conclusion when trying to use them. Right now they can supplant, but not replace baked glows.

Don't let that terrible thumbnail fool you. If you've been out of the game for awhile and this doesn't make you want to pick it back up and play it, I don't know what will. The SCP was still kicking some serious ass 8 years ago I see.
