one has to understand the 40k universe, the ships were basically giant spacefaring chapels.

This really is the key to the whole arguement about that ship. If your considering it to be something out of Star Wars or something then yes, it sucks big donkey balls. But it's not, it's from 40K and the whole Universe - Space Marines at least are very closely bonded to their chapters. The religion, philopsiphy and ambience of each species, race, chapter all plays a huge part in the design of the ships.

Unless the technology and brain capacity reached such a level where they could handle it so easily you would sculpt a spaceship much the way you would sculpt a peice of stone into an art form, the Ships' shape and design will always cosely match its' function.

Of course the higher tech it gets the smoother and less visible the tecnology becomes.

But the 40k universe from what little I know about it seems a little..messed up.

Either way..i'll get my oar out of this and back into NW where it belongs.  Going to have some :headz: flying later today :D

They have some advanced tech, but they dont really understand it. Tau on the otherhand are different and their ships are smooth etc.

The ships are millions of years old. most of the time they find them abondoned for thousands of years, and just try their best to use it.

The captain is wired in completely to the ship, unable to move. the navigators are psychics who die very frequently. there are so many things to BfG.

to understand the universe, read here:

VBB survivor: June 1999 until the end. Only banned 2 or 3 times (I think)

I've given up actually playing GW games, what with having no time, money or friends who know what the hell it's all about. Therefore, I'll gladly support this project. I write 40k fiction occasionally - it's pretty awful, but I just love the universe and the ancient human tech. The background stuff in the Spacemarine Codex books is fantastic, and the way the Imperium hasn't actually invented much new tech in ten thousand years. Love it.

Hooray Titan Legions!

Well the reason they dont is twofold.

1/ If they did, GW would have to bring out new stuff all the time
2/ Imperials dislike the technological advancement during the golden ages, as humanity was ruled by it.

for the captain being linked to the ship... well, mankind in 40K is really a kind of cyborg species... they all have cybernetic implants at a level or another, looks cool, but can be kindda digusting too ( the echlesiastic orders are among the weirdest ones, with tubes and cables in place of the eyes or ears, hypodermic syringes in the arms, etc).
