The main issue is that many are not willing to take that step to merge the morals and social-conciousness which religion aims for as well as the analysis and world-conciousness in science.

We have extremists, fundamentalism of all types, and it could just well be fear of taking a step to a more rational world.

Being rational doesn't mean killing god, but it does mean that you have a harder job explaining that to your son or daughter

Don't you believe it for a second, I can't speak for the the rest of the world but what's going on here in Ireland isn't anything to do with religion, it's a dirty little war for money. It's really that simple, any bull**** causes that you've heard of is simply an excuse to gather support as I guess is the case with most of these examples. Everything is motivated by money which is the greatest cause of evil and sadness in this world. Religion is just an easy way to cover this up or gather support from people who can be fooled into doing something terrible because they think it is for a 'higher' cause.

Well, I personally disagree with a lot here, but I simply can't put it into words all to say. There's too much. If another one of these pops up and I get in earlier, or perhaps my hands begin to type tonight while I sleep and I wake up with an essay finished on the screen, then you'll see. But suffice for me to say that I could actually counter just about everything said here... and reasonably well, too.
