It's not the money that bothers me, it's the principle of the matter.  It would have been an easy matter for someone to say 'hey, there's a company that makes and sells clothes and stuff over the net, should we do HLP stuff?' and ask the people running HLP if it's ok to use they HLP name and logo.

I don't think you've got any right to complain about this whatsoever.

The Freespace store does not advertise Freespace through the HLP logo, in fact, there's not ONE item that has the HLP logo and something else on it... so if anything, the wearer is promoting HLP.

You know ....technicially ,... the person that MADE the logo needs to give permission. Copyrights don't always HAVE to be in place.

And if you did ask him permission .... did you wait until he GAVE it ?

Regardless.... telling the admin there's not a god damned thing he can do about it is kinna like saying "Hey ban me ....please"

you want to get technical?  ok... here's what happened.

1)  In the freespace store thread, i said he should make some stuff with the HLP logo on it, instead of just 'hlp' written.

2)  GalacticEmperor asks me for it

3)  I say i don't have it, but i'll ask Shrike for it... I then PM shrike, and ask him if we can use the logo for the FS store.  the original PM is as follows:

hey

could you please send me the link to the HLP logo again? i accidentally deleted the PM with it in it... and GalacticEmperor needs the logo for the "Freespace Store"

4)  Shrike replies a few minutes later:

5)  I reply a few minutes after that, giving him the URL to the "Freespace Store" thread... i leave it at that... i don't give out the logo or anything (because Shrike hasn't given permission yet)

6)  No more PMs come from Shrike... so i presume he's gone to the Freespace Store thread and talked to GalacticEmperor about it.

7)  Apparently he hasn't, so he starts *****ing at me for giving out the logo, which i didn't do

Two more things i'm wondering about

1)  If i didn't give GalacticEmperor the logo, nor did Shrike apparently, where did he get it from?

2)  Oh, and the part about me being banned because Shrike (legally) can't do anything about people taking the logo and using it for other purposes (and since this forum is so anti-illegal stuff (i.e. warez, etc.) i think the same 'anti-legal' strategies apply... in that case, there's nothing that the admins can do about people taking the logo and using it for whatever they want)
What i don't understand is why i suddenly get blamed for everything when i asked Shrike's permission to get the logo for the freespace store (see above PM quote) and when i didn't get the go-ahead from him, i didn't give out the logo!  end of story!  so whoever it was that gave out the HLP logo, it wasn't me... and even if i had... what's the big deal!?  it's not like we're using the logo for some porn website or something!  It's for the FREESPACE STORE!

I DIDN"T GIVE THE LOGO OUT!  I ASKED PERMISSION!  I PMED SHRIKE FOR PERMISSION TO USE IT IN THE FREESPACE STORE!!!! DON"T YOU SEE THAT!?


what makes me mad is now it's suddenly "my" fault for giving out the logo without asking permission when

how?  i can't find any place where there's just the HLP logo... there's always the logo with words on it, etc.
