What I mean is that those are trucktastically good, but I don't have the authority to offer you a spot on the staff/request permission for some model usage, and that next time I see Karma, I'm going to suggest that he offers you that spot, and/or requests that model usage.

It's all in the nuances you see :p.

hehe.. don't overdo it. I'm a full time member of Project 90 and helping out one or another mod modeling wise as well... additionally, technically speaking these models now belong to Star Wars: Fleet Command and Star Trek versus Star Wars II (both Armada 2 mods), so I'll have to speak to Stalker about the usage as well :) But I'm fairly sure that some credit will do.

Just the polycount could be a tad high..

WOWSERS! Sweet work, Challenger!

And as for the polycount, I don't think that's a problem anymore - at least, not for the capships there. 2,500 poly fighters are still a bit much, but 1,000-3,000 poly capships can be used quite nicely I think. :D

I've had a talk to Stalker right now. He gave me green light to give you models as long as you give credit to P90 (the mother organisation I work for) with a link and me (as the actual author :D)
I hope that's not too much asked for. We would, of course, post a link of yours into our own area (at least a sticky thread in our forum , thats the least we can do)

someone catch me on ICQ so we can talk business :D

i'm here, i'm here..
i haven't posted since now just because i'm always in a hurry in this period for real life duties, and this will make harder to meet us on icq, btw, my # is 95731026, but i'll already post many considerations now:

First, let me very thank you for your offer (and if you guys need some SW artwork from us you are free to ask), but let me say a couple of sincere words:

converting a model- built for others games- to fs2 is not always a reliable process, many problems can occur, and some work is always required, expecially for capships, so some tests will be needed...and the problem is to find the time and the person to do those tests: consider that we have permission to use darksaber's models too (that will have precedence) and we still have to start to really using them...this is because our artists are already busy in creating our own artwork. I'm saying this just to bring the discussion to a realistic (and somehow pessimistic) dimension:)

Second thing, about your artwork, i looked at your gallery, your models are undoubtely good, but i noticed that sometimes they are of wrong proportions and somehow inaccurate (but it may be just a wrong impression caused by the angle of the render), some other times textures are little low detail or with "wrong" uvmaps. Note that i'm not saying that they are crap, they aren't, i'm saying that they are good but improovable.
This is caused, i think, mostly because they are little low poly to our standards (my tf if triangulized has an higher pcount than your home one..) or too high poly in some other cases (the high poly versions of xw, yw, isd)
Nonetheless i think that at least the dreadnought, the frigate and maybe the starhauler could be useful, the others may be useful too but we will probably consider them as temp versions, until we make our owns (and i'm not sure i may want to spend ages in turretting for a model if i don't cosider it absolutely definitive)

it could be very useful if you can send me a couple of your models, so i can give em a closer look and see if there are some "errors" (for the fs2 engine) like intersections or other things, and verify if they can be imported, my email is ferrarese-@[NO-SPAM]libero.it (remove the nospam)

thanks again challenger, and be free to visit us whenever you want:)

pssst, trash the blueprints of your corvette and go here: http://www.synicon.com.au/sw/br/tantive.htm#size  :p

well well
the reason why the textures look low-res partially: they ARE :). I origin from ST:armada modding, and the engine of this game can hardly manage high res (512x512) textures without lagging. the standard res is 256x256, which most of my models use.
Polycounts are also rather limited, like 1200-1500 polies (triangles) for battleships.

The higher poly models are mostly done for fun, or for the game Haegemonia which easily takes 10,000 polies for a battleship - besides 1024x1024 textures :D

I will send you the Assault frigate and the Dreadnought in the next two to three days (whenever I come around to do it). there will be quite certainly be errors, I assure you.

psst.. I'm not modeling the details after these blueprints... I use them as general reference for the general shape.

yes but even the proportions of the blueprint are wrong, not only the detail (i had the same problem since i'm doing in this period the corvette):)

as for textures, well fs2 standard use max 256x256 unless you hack your windows registry, but we can use as many as we want, but fs open can use almost any size supported by gpu

Yes, that's to scale. :D These are very much WIPS, however. I need someone to texture/turret and/or teach me how to do that.

The website has some meagre content now. I gotta get Reborn done so I can recommit to SWFS2.
