Looks like 17.6 or whatever - compare the closer ISD... about ten of them would fit in the length.

And compared to the Colossus? It doesn't seem to be 17.6 km long. At most 12. Of course I don't know how far the SSD is from the Colossus, you know that ships further look smaller.

Actually, I just noticed something in that picture. There are 3 ISDs, the one I missed previously being the one in the top-left.

Look at how small that one is compared to the ISD in the bottom-right (matter of distance). Take the relative sizes of the bottom-right ISD and the Big C, and then project the Big C to the rear of the SSD, scaling it to match the upper-left ISD back there. :)

Also, realize that the SSD's narrower rear section is fully one-third of it's total length, or around 6km, the length of the Colossus. ;)

Hell, if we get the FOV issue addressed via the SCP to Star Wars standards, it'd be a blast to play through the main FS2 campaign again, and see the capital ships appear truly ginormous. ;)

Ginormous? Same as big? Hmm ... FS2 sizes are I think a bit small, too. The Orion doesn't look to have 2km size despite it captures 2 large blocks in FRED.

It's a known problem, and has to do with the field of view the engine renders.

Can't help it- i'm a colossus fan ^_^
I must ask tho, do the SW ships have beam weapons at all? Do the FS2 Cap ships stand a chance against the super-gigantic SSD or even the smaller ISD?? Do the beam weapons have any affect in this or are they totally and completely useless??

Beams on SW ships? Why? At most tractor beams, which are beams and weapons, just tactical.

Agreed with Sheepy, comparing this two universes is a VERY difficult task. This is a reason the SW conv.  staff doesn't want to face an SSD and the Sathanas :)  At least I think not this is the primary goal of the campaign. ;)

The only beams should be on

The Death Stars
And the Eclipse (god I need to learn how to spell, is that right?)

All the others should be something else.

And darksaber ... that's the death star's beam on a battleship.
Otherwise, you spelled Eclipse well. :)

actuly, boath ships are incredably well ballenced.

the big C has no shields but the SSD has no beam weapons, realy no heavy weapons at all...
it has bomber wings, but no flak turrets only Point Defence lasers.  the C has access to about 10 difrent primary fighter weapons while SSD only gets lasers and Ion cannons.  the C has long range bombs/missles and disabler missles aswell as a large amount of outher tactical weapons.   an SSD gets short range tractorbeams.  Now Realy I dont have a clue which ship would win with out fighter cover, but with it hands down it's the C, TIEs dont mount shieds after all, and flak does bad things when your shields are gone...

besides, any good GTVA pilot will disable the shields on that SSD first, followed by the weapons, sensers, drives, then it's all over the Colossis just has to stay at maximum range and beam that SSD to ash.  »:)

just for ballence, the FS cap ships have beams
but the SW cap ships get shields, and cap ship beams dont punch shields like AAA beams.

And another thing...

...disable all the weapons on the SSD... ...I'm sorry I have to laugh at that...be my guest (well you practically are a guest here...)...and try to take down all 100+ turrets...while they all fire straight at you...if the "Big C" gets close to any SSD, it's f*cked in a big way...trust me...the "Big C" would melt in a matter of minutes...and if the SSD couldn't do it fast enough...we'll settle this with a one on one match:

GTVA Colossus Versus SSD Eclipse (The one with the DS gun)

...and the winner is! With a Knock out! SSD ECLIPSE!!!

days? you complain about Days?! I'm sorry there is not a laughing gravestone smile, I dont mean to be rude or anything but, man.  Oh, and I'm aiming for the weapon system, not the weapons indavidualy, that would be a moron move, my fusion(?) reactor would go out before I finished, even with advanced disruptors, I'd wrather blind the thing, and take it's legs, faster and more effective.  if all else fails, I could take the main bridge, secondary bridge.

so, anyway. any chance of geting some offical results?  say the dreadnot 'C' and the super dreadnot 'SSD' in a 1v1 no holds barred deathmach?  I would like to know the result, with and without fighter cover, I'm fairly shure that will be the desciding factor.  although if you tweeked the AI to use the AAA beams against the shields, that would probly make up for it.

Can I help it if I prefer my pegasis to anything from SW?

it's a sticky anyway.... :p

as for which ship would win, well it simply can't be decided because both games measure stuff in totally different units etc. etc, blah blah blah. (it's already a really old argument) :D

eg, while durasteel protects against turbo laser bolts, who knows what would happen to it in a sustained beam cannon shot. for all we know it may not even scratch the paint. or it could punch a hole right through the entire ship and superheat everything around it.
Or the SSD's heavy turbolasers may only have the damage of a terran turret or less, but then again they may destroy the entire ship (not to mention the entire system if the technical commentaries conclusion of 800 gigatons of damage are to be believed :doubt: ) in one shot.

~can only be guessed at ;)

and if i had to guess, i would probably go with the giant waterpistol because of it's BFGreens-the SSD's command tower looks a little vunerable to a nice shot from one if you ask me :drevil:

well, that and the escape pods are a bit closer....:nervous:

Well, ok so you'd need a common frame of refrence before you could pit anything from the 2 timelines together.  so, lets asume a turbolaser can take an astroid in one shot, that gives us the minimum power, about equal to 6 shots from a Subach.  anything in the tech books on it's maxamum destructive capabilitys?  a city block?  a city? the moon?   I would realy like to know.

strange though, I dont remember a TIE Defender having any super sensor aray,  how is it going to keep a lock on me in my peg if it cant even find me?  now if your the pilot I would have some problems, but then you know to look out for stelth ships, and outher nice FS2 toys... :nervous:

[[edit] had some fancy stuf with the TIE D messed up from the smilies.  meh]
