Dear Hard Light Denizens:

I believe that I have posted a topic on this form some time ago about establishing a Homeworld community here are Hard Light.  I believe it's time to revive it again!  Homeworld has been the fascination of many HL denizens here.  Although Freespace is the top focus of Hard Light, Homeworld belongs in the top three list of futuristic space-based games.  (Freespace, Homeworld, and I-WAR)  Many topics I have seen so far constitutes an element of Homeworld-ism in them.  Homeworld is truely indirectly a part of Hard Light Productions.  One of the first renders on Hard Light Art was a Homeworld render.  We house the most popular Freespace 2 -> Homeworld conversion fan projects.  Also with our source code project for Freespace 2 now in full bloom, a Homeworld community would actually attract newcomers to Hard Light.  These newcomers would bring in new information that we can assimilate into the great Hard Light collective.  Plus, Hard Light would be harboring another community where even more diversity would flourish.

I say that we give this a shot.  A probation period.  Staffers, start a new forum and let it run for several months and note the traffic, interest, and related posts.  If results are good, then keep the forum.  If not, then take it off without any hassle.

P.S. - Staffers, please post this as news.  It would attract more people to this - glorious idea.

[color=33ff00]We looked at this before back when I was a formal member of the staff, it just didn't have enough momentum so we decided that it wasn't such a great idea. I-war is pretty much non existant ATM.

I think the relic boards are still the best place for anything HW related, you got a strong community there with a lot of people who know what they're doing and can offer assistance.

Personally, I love the idea. Anything to get more groovy pictures of Homeworld stuff without having to go to another set of boards. Yes, I'm that damn lazy.

On the other hand, it looks like, given the spectacular success of the Iwar forums,  that there's not enough interest in modding games other than Freespace here.

And then there's what Shrike said--which is pointed out pretty much everytime someone mentions Homeworld forums for Hardlight.

Guys (and gals), if you want HomeWorld discussion boards, get your arses over to The Gaming Union forums. There's more HW forums than it's legal.

Personally I don't think now is the right time to expand properly into Homeworld, since the game is old and there's no sign of Homeworld 2. Also as Shrike says another site on the 3DAP server covers it, we'd be hard pressed to justify ourselves.
