I said I would be here for around a month, and so I have. But it's time for me to go - I expect to be around again at the end of Spring (Fall for the northern-hemisphere people). I've said a few words around the place which are worth quoting here...

(In response to asking me to stay) But sorry BW, you're missing a couple of vital factors which keep me from staying.

Firstly, the reason I originally left still exists: my mother is still seriously ill. I am the closest thing she has to a full-time caretaker - I am away at school for between seven and eight hours each weekday, and almost all my other time is spent awake, ensuring that if she needs to be taken to hospital, I can make it so. Sleep is a precious commodity which I hardly get these days - three or four hours on a good weekday, four or five on a good weekend.

Secondly, if I do stay, I will be committed to a great deal more work than any of you ordinary HLPers - if I stay, I stay as project leader. If not officially, then effectively. I cannot stay here and not provide any help here to projects or people who need my services - that is and has always been my main role here. I might as well not be here if I don't fulfil that position. And if I do fulfill it... well, the reality is that the rest of my life will go down the drain, and my physical health will probably suffer (sleep deprivation is an effective torture method, I've discovered).

Thirdly, I genuinely need to place that degree of work into this year. I won't explain to you the mechanics of it, but I need to be a source of income for my family as soon as possible - which I can do if I receive a co-op scholarship and get an allowance from my sponsor. And it goes beyond that, too.

As you can see, there are just a few extraordinary circumstances that put it out of my reach.

(In response to checking back throughout the year) I don't think I'll be able to keep myself away. This is going to be my busiest year yet in terms of school - it always seems to be that way, every year! But goodness, I really hope and pray that I can nail this year and get back here full-time. I'm really aiming at owning the Higher School Certificate... which is your ranking, expressed as a number 1-100 where 100 is the highest, and is also calculated on a logarithmic-type distribution. (The gap between 70-80 is similar to the gap between 85-90 which is similar to the gap between 99-100... get it? )

After that, I'm aiming at a co-op scholarship at a state university, whereby a sponsoring company gives you industrial training (paid work experience, basically), an allowance (typically about AUD$300 a week for 45 weeks of the year), and an accelerated course - about two years instead of three. After that, I want to become a church ministry trainee... if I'm able to earn enough money, I'd really love to spend some time and do some studies in Israel (I can't wait to learn Hebrew... I hope the right-to-left doesn't freak me out too much).

2003's going to be a great year. I ask you all that you'd continue to put effort into keeping this place a good one - the type that you want to come back to, the type that you want to bring other people to so that they don't miss out on all the fun and fellowship. And don't worry... my time here has passed, for now... it was good while it lasted, I really missed this place. But I will be back, so long as you're still here to come back to.

I'm sad even though I knew for the last month you'd have to go. I dunno about anyone else, but I've gotten to know you nicely over the last month, and you are one of the coolest people I know dude. Not to mention talented. BTW, I thank you for all the help you've given me in this time, and You won't be dissapointed in 10 months when you return. I only wish I could have got things together faster, but they'll be good to go soon enough. (and then you'll all see. mwuhahaha!!! )
