Israel has some cool looking ships as well, try and look for the Eilat class corvette.

Got it! Looks good and stealthy, like that Swedich stealth frigate.

Easily done, the Burkes have AEGIS too.

I really want a Russian Pauk class FAC. It's a tiny ship, and has a crew of any about 40, but has weapons about the same as most frigates! It's only 57 metres long, and has a displacemtn of ony 480 tons, but has a SAM launcher, a  3 inch gun, 4 torpedo tubes, 2 ASW mortars, 24 depth charges and a 30mm gatling CIWS!

Wow! You people wrote a lot since I last checked it - which is quite often btw -, but anyway let me give some detail about the baby above:
-Fastest airplane in the world *if you don't count the Mig-34 which was a faux*
-Most expensive in both terms of production, but especially in maintinance and simple operation:
-Two high grade jet engines have to used just to start its engines!
-Almost all the fuel it has gets leaked and used up during the simple take-off, becuse the plane couldn't be designed so that the pipework would fit both during low-speed and Mach-3
-The hull has waves in it, which expand when the craft heats up near M2-M3. It is only then when most parts fit as they were supposed to
-Hence the things above it needs to be refueled almost after take-off - close to stall speed!!!

There never was one craft that was built for combat - even the interceptor was a prototype - and got damaged during a landing.
The awsome speed makes it very hard to deliver a second round of missiles - could only carry 3 by the time, although - with nuclear warheads.

So it is a bit expensive-and frustrating-to fly.
I recommend a Rafale or a Typhoon - when it is finally put to production - or some new Russian wonder if you go for close-combat.
"I was going to become a speed dealer. If one stupid fairytale turns out to be total nonsense, what does the young man do? If you answered, “Wake up and face reality,” you don’t remember what it was like being a young man. You just go to the next entry in the catalogue of lies you can use to destroy your life." - John Dolan

I've got a book with the LaFayette in it, but I'm not that impressed.:D

it just doesn't look mean enough.

The Suffren, on the other hand, looks bloody frightening!

well, the lafayette is designed so you don't find it, so it doesn't matter if it looks frightening or not ;)
the most frightening threat is the one you can't see :D

Can you smell it, though? If you can then I might agree.

Eh? We're building a couple of brand spanking new ones, we're not replacing our three Invincible-class boats with second-hand french ones :ick

Since when were we building new 'uns? I knew that the Invincivles were being mothballed, but I didn't know we were getting shiny new plastic-blister-packed ones. Have a link to a news site or something?

Yep, we're buliding 'em brand new. They're slightly bigger versions of the Invincible, basically intended to be integrated with the X-35 STOVL. There was a big fuss over whether BAE or some french contractor should build 'em, but then it was pointed out that the two companys are as international as each other and the arguments promptly subsided.

I'm uploading a movie of the new boat as we speak

Booyah!

And the ASTOVL rules! I used to fly one in Janes ATF, but I'm damned if I can get that to run anymore, bloody USB joysticks.

The problem with the LaFayette is that even fishing trawlers radar can pick it up....... unless they are going to engage small speedboats with ww2 era radar then it a bit of a waste of cash.

Splendid! I wonder what they'll call it.
HMS Indefatigable, perhaps?

60k tonnes! 40k tonnes more than the 20k tonne Invincible! thats 3 times as big as the invincible and bigger then the CDG

One will be called the Ark Royal as always, but the other one, well either Labour will be pc and call it the HMS Dildo, or HMS fat Black Lesbian Rights Campaigner....... HMS Vengance gets my vote.

The whole lot will be escorted by the new PAAMS type 45,

http://www.rnjobs.co.uk/static/pages/1973.html

That is however unless labour defence cuts get implemented and then we have 2 new carriers and PT boat to escort them.

As for buying the CDG? bwhahahahahahahahaahahahahaha that pos is a traversty of modern engineering. 6 billion quid over budget so slow a man o war can outpace it with no wind (put a submarine nuclear reactor in a full sized carrier = win!!!). Its flight deck/structural integrity is dubious as its been lenghtened about 4 times without strenghtening the hull.
