Freelancer steals our ships!
Yeah i forget the name sof all the ships. ATM tis 15 THOUSAND polies but im gonna model it  organically and THEN reduce it as much as i can, i would be happy witha 3000 polly model. AS it looks right now it would make a great CGI art render. I can even map the original texture onto it (Not that i plan to) But it may end up being a night mare.

Not really a good idea to touch the original textures. 256x256 maps, they'd destroy any good work you did with polygons by replacing it with blocks of colour.

true, but with LW i can "bake" the object. i can render it and have it output the render into UV map of the object. Can make making textures damned easy, adn it can completly reuina good texture.

15000, is  bit high for a fighter, I think it could work but, that is a bit unnecisary, 3-5000 is the current goal for SCP HT&L ships

...never tried... usually crashes first load of a mission anyway, then I have to start again, and it'll work...

Once again the question was avoided...
Looks like I will buying FL in a few months to try it out and see how modding it goes... Aparently there is a wise range of other genre ships in their modding section and I want to see how they look in game (like a Starblazer's fighter) before trying to get  a modler to bring them to FS2... I'm just swamped right now with other games  (like trying to get my new burner to work and re-downloading the 50 or 60 NWN mods I had before the HD crashed! and saving them to a master DVD. Plus archiving my currrent FS2 projects...

     If someone already has a link to Fl ships converted TO FS2, please let me know, thnx...

BTW I am one of those lazy, non skilled people who just rip ships from games to use...BUT at least I have a big folder of credit files so if any model I ripped gets used in a mod that is actually released by me I can post the appropriate credits. Plus I NEVER take any credit for making it, but say where I got it from and what I did to it...

True, but the fighters only have a single 256x256 map :S

As for the rest of us I think we're glad to see the space sim community increasing it's boundaries, it's not like developers are falling over each other to make more of them. :doubt:

For my part I'm glad to see ports of those models, if the Xwing Alliance Upgrade guys thought along the same lines you'd probably have been playing a FS2 Starwars mod a few months ago. I can only see SS_Spawn's work as a good thing.

Well, not neccesarily. We're having a bit of trouble successfully converting opts into stable pofs. There're some clipping problems in some models, and all thew XWA models use a crapload of small textures, hardly ideal for HT&L - We're going to have to reUV map many of them...

the original texure actually doesnt matter. the baking precess generates a new one at any resolution, like 2048 square for photoshop editing. If an object was gonna be immobile ina  game wororld, you could set up the scene in light wave and make the lighting and render all the shadiing onto the textures, that may be waht DA did with the base scenes in FL.

Update: THe model now may enver see the light of say (neither as a high end model nor the game version) since i cant mimic the oragnic like texturing. anyone has any suggestions of wants to try helping me (get credit of course) it would be much appreciated.

Sure... I have lot's of FS2 models  - in TS you can easily add more detail (without the stupid triangulate function)...

Heh...there is a HUGE mass of models for different campaigns... Much of those would look neat-o in FL!
