What the hell is this deal with "canon", anyway? I could kinda understand it when the religious types invented it- "canon" there is word from ****ing God, it's the Truth and in big capital letters, you ignore it or pay too much attention to stuff that isn't it, you go to hell. What the hell is it supposed to mean in context of George Lucas? He doesn't have a single coherent idea of the Star Wars universe he started out with. He doesn't care what you think. Believe whatever the **** you like- ignore the later stuff like the midichlorians or ignore him entirely if you so choose- it doesn't make your version of the story any less "real" than any other.
You need an official Party line, someone to tell you what you should and shouldn't think? Fine, all the Jedi are magical princesses, direct descendants of the tooth fairy, and they're not there so much to protect the Universe and all that ****e so much as to eliminate tooth decay, in a really roundabout fashion. There, I told you what imaginary world to play around in, got rid of all those nasty "options" and "use of imagination" and so on, it's no less real or official than the others, it isn't even internally inconsistent like a lot of them. Be happy.
