Actually, it's more canon than you might think, considering it was Zahn who introduced Coruscant into the SW universe. Whether it was Lucas's idea that he let Zahn introduce or what, I don't know.
It is closer to canon that most of the SW fiction out there, but it's not official canon. So anything that Lucas, which his deranged mind, wants to change, he can change.

What the hell is this deal with "canon", anyway? I could kinda understand it when the religious types invented it- "canon" there is word from ****ing God, it's the Truth and in big capital letters, you ignore it or pay too much attention to stuff that isn't it, you go to hell. What the hell is it supposed to mean in context of George Lucas? He doesn't have a single coherent idea of the Star Wars universe he started out with. He doesn't care what you think. Believe whatever the **** you like- ignore the later stuff like the midichlorians or ignore him entirely if you so choose- it doesn't make your version of the story any less "real" than any other.

You need an official Party line, someone to tell you what you should and shouldn't think? Fine, all the Jedi are magical princesses, direct descendants of the tooth fairy, and they're not there so much to protect the Universe and all that ****e so much as to eliminate tooth decay, in a really roundabout fashion. There, I told you what imaginary world to play around in, got rid of all those nasty "options" and "use of imagination" and so on, it's no less real or official than the others, it isn't even internally inconsistent like a lot of them. Be happy.

I'm just saying that George Lucas, in the event of him making 7-9, probably won't give a **** about the Thrawn books.

I'd actually hate to see Lucas make movies out of those books - he's done so poorly with Eps. I & II that I can't even begin to imagine how bad it would be if it had to be based off a book, as generally movies based off books are far poorer than the books.

"...The quintessential quality of our age is that of dreams coming true. Just think of it. For centuries we have dreamt of flying; recently we made that come true: we have always hankered for speed; now we have speeds greater than we can stand: we wanted to speak to far parts of the Earth; we can: we wanted to explore the sea bottom; we have: and so  on, and so on: and, too, we wanted the power to smash our enemies utterly; we have it. If we had truly wanted peace, we should have had that as well. But true peace has never been one of the genuine dreams - we have got little further than preaching against war in order to appease our consciences. The truly wishful dreams, the many-minded dreams are now irresistible - they become facts." - 'The Outward Urge' by John Wyndham

"The very essence of tolerance rests on the fact that we have to be intolerant of intolerance. Stretching right back to Kant, through the Frankfurt School and up to today, liberalism means that we can do anything we like as long as we don't hurt others. This means that if we are tolerant of others' intolerance - especially when that intolerance is a call for genocide - then all we are doing is allowing that intolerance to flourish, and allowing the violence that will spring from that intolerance to continue unabated." - Bren Carlill

Acknowledging that Episodes One and Two weren't fantastic, I'm too tired to come to my own conclusions at the moment. That being said, how would you guys realistically change the movies to make them better and what not, or which parts of the movies do you really dislike?

Is it more of a writing bit and the actual story, or just the way they were made as  movies?

Ever thought that maybe Ep1 & 2 were bad because the books were?  I mean, there was a reason for Ep4, wasn't there...?

I just went and watched EP IV. Wow, the acting was great, the special effects, while less advanced and explosive than the two new ones, seemed more real, as everything was less shiny, etc, etc.

But the thing that blew me away was how much BETTER the original trilogy, even 1 movie, was than both the new movies.

Plus, the old technology and spaceships and junk kicked ass. Y-Wings versus those curvy Naboo thingies that looked like ten minutes in a NURBS modeler? Pfeh. I still can't make anything that comes even close to being as kickass as those Rebel ships.

The books like the Thrawn Trilogy and the Hand of Thrawn Duology (Spectre of the Past and Vision of the Future) and several others may not have been published by LucasBooks/DelRay, but they are still conceivably canon. After all, the New Jedi Order books, which were published by LucasBooks/DelRay and are undoubtedly canon, refer to those non-LucasBooks SW books in their timeline.

Trust me, I've got all the Star Wars novels, from the time of the Clone Wars all the way to the last New Jedi Order novel (The Unifying Force, which came out only a few weeks ago and takes place about 28 years after A New Hope) and all the later novels refer to events that happened in previous books. That makes it clear that the authors all made HUGE efforts to keep the events of the novels as interrelated as possible so no one would doubt that all the novels were all canon.

EDIT: Directed at Krackers.

Then you should like the original's ships. They all had grit and grime and pipes and odds and ends, while the new ones are mostly smooth and look like extruded cylinders.

Allright, if you do not understand this, I would translate it to a more understandable form.
[NO OFFENSE FOR CANCER, HE IS SITTING NEXT TO ME AND HE ASKED ME TO SAY THE SAME WITH MY OWN WORDS]

Star Wars films forever!
But the actors of the second trilogy(A new hope, Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi) are too old by now to be able to fit the role they would have to act.
He also doesn't understand what those Episode numbers would be. Episode III will soon be out(2005 May :?:), and in order to insert more episodes, they would need to be Episode 2.5 for example.

Not really. Since it's 18 years behind to first two trilogies, it's been just a few more years real life since Ep's 4-6, so it would fall right in with the preset. (Provided the suggested Ep's 7-9 were set about 20 years after Jedi)

The thing is, according to Lucas, NOTHING, including NJO and the Thrawn trilogy, is canon. Only the movies are part of the official timeline. Or have you not noticed that those books are listed under the Extended Universe?

It looks I will have to have a look at the Behind the Magic timeline. I doubt there would be that much time difference between the original trilogy and the Thrawn trilogy.
Because 20 years after the battle of Endor, Luke's Jedi Academy fought against Shadow Academy. At the times of the Thrawn trilogy, Luke has not foundated his Jedi Academy yet.

But please confirm me.

Only problem is, Mark Hamil got in a....car crash, I believe. That's why he's not doing show business anymore.

You know he does the voice of the The Joker, right?
