Besides, there's more light-weapons than just lightsabers. If I remember rightly, there are characters with light spears and in one case a pair of light-tonfa. The lightsaber is the most iconic form of the jedi (and hence the sith, since they're essentially the same thing, if you take your fictional history back far enough) weaponry.

Indeed. Aldo got it. Lighttonfa. Absolutely the best "light" weapon ever. :)

It was one of the Dark Horse comics, actually. The same ones that introduced the Masassi and Exar Kun, and half the stuff that's accepted as canon by most fans nowadays.

Fair enough.

Light-Billyclubs still sound silly to me though. It'd be like having a lightmachette or a light-bat. :p

Well really, what's a lightsaber but a lightbat? (makes me think of the incredibly well written "Mage") Heck, a light-machete is just a differently shaped lightsaber. As I recall the light-tonfa were just very short lightsabers with a cross bar on the hilt. The character that carried them carried them concealed up her sleeves.

You know.. it's got the knob at the end and the tape on the handle and then the blade comes out and gets fatter at the top. The the Sith pitcher pulls out his light-ball...

The "cooky mangas" did light ( laser ) weapons way before starwars even existed :doubt:.

On a side note, why a normal people could not use a light saber? They use the force for batteries? :p

Normal non-force sensitive people CAN use ligthsabers, if they grab one from a Jedi/Sith/Close friend :). It is another pie that he/she won't be able to survive in a battle for long. :D

Han Solos uses a lightsaber in Empire Strikes Back to cut open a tauntaun.... i think the idea was that you need the foresight & control of The Force just to make sure you don't screw up and cut yourself with it whilst swinging.

Indeed, but he wouldn't be able to reflect a single shot with it and survive a combat with stormtroopers.

We're talking about Star Wars comics/manga, not lifting things from StarWars or originating things  in StarWars from non-StarWars stories.
