Umm, yes.  If only to support the file formats that they are stored in.  Vanilla FS2 was about maxed out with the nebulas that it had.

They are released. Check my signature link (second one) or go through this thread (theres the links).

You will need SCP for them. Only SCP can handle that sheer amount of nebula images in stars.tbl. Also, if you'd use FS2retail it'd force you to use the 8-bit FRED placeholders (as FS2retail doesnt support TGA graphics) - which would look pretty ugly if you ask me.

I think I'm almost going to have to relearn the table structure again when (if?) we upgrade BWO for SCP support.  I want to take advantage of a few nifty things and maybe use some of the new weapon effects that have been created for various things (and create some new nebulas and planets to upgrade the visuals)....but I haven't a clue on how some of this stuff is being done.

In a way, I am really enjoying this, because it's so exciting to see the game we know and love being transformed into stuff we never imagined possible, quite literally. I'm still hanging out for BWO though, with or without SCP extras. I even think that getting BWO out the door first, enjoying the gameplay and the story first, then continuing to work on SCP stuff in the background and releasing that as an add-on pack later would be pretty desirable. But that's just me.

Heh heh, Ice V2.0. If you ever figure out how to make one of those, do let me know, I sure could do with something just like that myself.
