IS Microsoft getting more...effeminate?
Is it just me, or do Microsoft's newer products seem more...feminine in nature?

I have to say I prefer the usable utilitarian interface of IDEs long past to the new, flowery, look....

I don't really notice that much of a difference.

That's a C++ compiler right?  I don't really see much difference between the two.

:doubt: The best sign that Microsoft designers have no lives is that they never KISS. .NET has so many extra "helpful" features that once you know what you're doing, they just keep getting in the way.

Edit: Well, okay, I don't really *know* what I'm doing a lot of the time, but even then they get in the way. ;)

Actually the GUI overall looks a lot more smoothed, weaker lines and so forth. I'm not sure I like it since in the old days whenever a program crashed it looked like that before it took the whole system down with it - so just looking at it creates a sort of a knee jerk reaction for me.

M$ is just trying to streamline the apps and make them look better. Think about it, would you rather stare at a pretty (fmeinine) desk receptionist for an hour, or some 50-year old woman who chain-smokes 12 packs a day and uses a butterknife to shave her moustache?

Is there any way to force .NET to pop open help in its own window, instead trying to jam everything into that overcomplicated mega-tabbed monstrosity?

(had to work with VB.NET for a class, still using VB6 at work)

Right-click the name and click "Floating". To move it back just drag it into the tabs area.

Usually I don't stare at the IDE window for an hour while coding. I try to see the code, which seems to be becoming increasingly secondary with all these user-friendly "helper" tools that eat up more memory and multiple the loading time by 4. :doubt:

I'd rather stare at the old woman. Old receptionist women kick ass.

They're the only old people I actually like, c'z they've spent decades being hit on by slimey middle-management people and have developed a cool "I could outsmart yo' punk-ass in my sleep" attitude. And as anyone with half an ounce of sense knows, the receptionists and secretaries have the real power in any office.
