Found a preview online for Knights of the Old Republic 2, fleshes out some of the details (such as how they're handling the Revan problem):

I agree that the storyline isn't looking all too promising atm, seeing as the storyline in the original KoTOR was extremely well done, and I would prefer to continue the storyline as Revan. But I do hope we are wrong about the storyline, it probably won't be as good as the original KoTOR, but hopefully it will still be good :)

Now thats the optimistic view on the whole thing.
The worst case scenario is that the story will suck major arse and this is ofcourse a more plausible scenario too, but maybe we are lucky :D

I wonder if this is even going to come out at all, seing as MS is buying/has bough BioWare...
All the good Canadian dev studios seem to be getting snatched up by the bigger companies recently. Relic is now owned by THQ, BarkingDog is now Rockstar Vancouver.

Rumour still. The internet rumour claims that it will be announced at E3, and nothing has been annnounced yet.

Also, remember that it has been rumoured around for almost two years.

I'm groovin on the new storyline. I'm groovin on the new tweaks to the engine. I'm groovin on the prestige classes (which KOTOR1 desperately needed. You shouldn't hit lvl20 so damned early!) I'm groovin on the whole new game.

Yeah, I'm so buying this. :D

The part I'm liking is the ability to avoid having to level up in other classes before becoming a Jedi.

"Prestige classes"
FFS. At the very least they could change the goddamn name. Shadows of Undrentide and Hordes of the Underdark added prestige classes to NWN. If they call any of the feats "Epic" I'll scream. Unoriginal bastards.

Or atleast the ability to choose which classes to level up in, like in NWN

Don't blame Bioware. Blame Wizards of the Coast. It's not Bioware's fault that WOTC used the term prestige classes for this use in both the standard Dungeons and Dragons 3rd Edition and the Star Wars D20 Roleplaying game. You can blame the term "Epic" on WotC too, and you won't see any of those here, as it only goes up to 20.

The only thing I really don't like so far is the whole Jedi Purge thing. I mean, wtf? If the Jedi were almost killed off before, then what the hell makes Vader/Anakin so special? What's so special about the Jedi if they get their asses purged every four-thousand years?

They could have bloody changed it for KotoR. I understand why they used it in NWN. Because NWN is D&D. KotoR isn't.

From some of the other things I've read about KotOR 2 it looks like the Jedi purge is going on throughout the outer rim, where the game is taking place. The Republic and Jedi are licking their wounds from what Malak/Revan did and have pulled back to the central systems, meaning that most of the galaxy is now easy prey for the Sith who served Malak. What makes Vader special is that managed to exterminate nearly all of the Jedi in the entire galaxy.

KotOR is a modified version of the Star Wars D20 system. I said this in my last post. The Star Wars D20 system is basically the same as D&D 3E, as both are based on the D20 System, developed by Wizards of the Coast. Hence, both D&D 3E (NWN) and SWD20 (KotOR) use the term "Prestige Classes".

I've never played NWN or any form of D&D (except KotOR). How does this Prestige class thing work? You get your character to level 20, then what?

You dont get to level 20 first. If you meet a series of requirements, you can advance into a prestiege class first. For example, the Arcane Archer in NWN requires that you're an Elf or Half-Elf, are able to use bow weapons and use arcane magic, plus a few other little things.
I have a character right now thats a Level 5 Ranger/Level 3 Sorcerer/Level 7 Arcane Archer.

I know what KotOR uses. The engine is just a heavily modified NWN engine IIRC. But they changed half of the names for things (feats/skills/classes/etc.)(Fighter=Soldier, Ranger=Scout, Rogue=Scoundrel), you think they could have changed the name for prestiege classes...

I liked the new prestige classes and abilities in the Shadows of Underrark expansion.
A paladin with Devine Might is practicly unstoppable for the duration!

Anyway, I do hope they deliver with KOTOR2. I would allos like to see the Guardian of the Light (a two-handed great lightsaber that can be download for KOTOR)and oder goodies the modders have done..

I was referring to ruleset, not engine. Yes, it does use the Aurora engine. But the ruleset is the Star Wars D20 system, and it uses the term Prestige Class.
