The game engine prevents you from being able to do negative damage right now. You can sort of fake it with SEXPs though.

It would be interesting if we could make a 'heal beam' of some kind, where ships can target friendlies using the heal beams and give them back hull integrity.  It would have to have a really legarthic refire rate, however...

We explored this on BP, there are a number of problems. For one, friendly ships will still treat it as weapons fire and evade it. It creates particle spew just like any other weapon. And the AI has no idea how to use it at all.

Perhaps that'll be something I can do for the SCP, once I figure out pointers in C++, which I can't remember how to do to save my life.

"Priest" cruisers. They fire "priest" cluster torpedoes. However, their "Faith" is depleted whenever they "heal" a friendly. The "Faith" is completely regenerated after a minute. Also, these "priest" cruisers can "convert" hostiles to friendly by deploying a "conversion" bomb at them. (hold on, is the latter actually possible? Changing IFF out of a missile blast/beam hit without SEXP's?)

This terribly reminds me of those motherfrakking priests from Age of Empires.

Yeah. They did **** to AI. I mean a priest squad can own an enemy army, simply because an AI unit goes crazy when at least two priests convert the same one.
