Re: A celebration of Freespace
When I get back home I shall see what I can do with getting animated water working. Normal mapped water is a cakewalk and no problem at all, I'm in fact sitting on 30 frames @ 1024^2 tileable water animation (height maps + normal maps, probably pretty easy to craft diffuse and shine maps for them, just time-consuming). This animation was the result of my successful attempt to improve the water in IL-2 Sturmovik (which could only use 15 frames @ 256^2).

It'll work as soon as I get the thing set up, EFF's and what not, but it would be a lot better if someone made a shader that can actually bump the surface* instead of just using a normal map...

*as in, visually displace the model surface in the direction of surface normal... not sure if viable.

If you got that stuff working in FSO your supercool status would reach the level of demigod.:)
Did you hear that fellas? She says I have a Meritorious Unit.

There was a distortion in the spice-thyme continuum.  :P

Don't you wish the UEF was this cool?

Those fighters are awesome, Andrew. What are they based from? I'm sure I've seen them around before but can't recall where.

Re: A celebration of Freespace
The red fighter is an original design that's based off of one of the fighters from Strattcomm's model dump. I redid the design from scratch to give it a more cel shaded appearance. I modeled, UV mapped, textured, and rigged it all by myself. The blue one is...the Vic Viper. At least myname1x4xs's version of the Vic Viper. I saw his awesome design on his account and asked him if I could have the source model for a short campaign I'm working on. He gave me his blessing and spent countless hours having to optimize it.

Here you can take a closer look at the fighters here:

Got the Vexor working, eh? Good job. The Coral's cruise missiles look more like lights on a spoke, though.

The particles for the rocket flame trail are smaller in the first few frames leading to that affect at the beginning of its trajectory. I'd need a new effect to fix it. I've already had to trim down the number of particles, making the trails look worse, to alleviate the huge FPS drops the flame trails were causing if many cruise missiles were on screen. The actual missile itself is only around 13 meters long, the rest is just exhaust flames.

I'd say the Andropov would look better if the sides were angled down somewhat

I believe you can simply modify the existing one, since it looks perfectly fine at the end of the trail [even if this is caused by free flight].
